BOSTON -- After a two-month stretch between victories, the Philadelphia 76ers celebrated for the second time in less than a week. Michael Carter-Williams and Henry Sims scored 24 points apiece and led the Sixers on a late surge that was too much for Boston to overcome in Philadelphias 111-102 win over the Celtics on Friday night. "We really wanted this win. I think its a great win for us," said Carter-Williams, who scored seven points during an 11-4 run for the Sixers late in the fourth quarter. Thaddeus Young and Elliot Williams added 15 points apiece for the Sixers, who have won two of four since tying an NBA record with 26 straight losses. Philadelphia capitalized on 22 turnovers by Boston and overcame a triple-double by Rajon Rondo, who finished with 11 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds for the Celtics. "Were on a roll!" Philadelphia coach Brett Brown with a smile. "Im just so proud of their ability to play as a team and continue to do the right thing and have a true desire to get better." The Sixers held Boston scoreless for nearly four minutes late in the third quarter and scored 35 points in the fourth, pulling away while going 11-for-17 from the field and making 12 of 17 foul shots. Sims led Philadelphia with 10 points in the fourth for a new career high in points. "We just kind of turned it up a little bit. We just got more and more into guys and tried to stay aggressive on the defensive end," Young said. "It just shows progress and it just shows growth. This is a young team. A lot of guys, people dont really even know about but these guys are trying to make a name for themselves." Celtics fans are getting to know the young Sixers well. Although Philadelphia has lost 28 of 31, two of the three victories have come in Boston. Boston has lost seven straight and twice this season to Philadelphia, which has won just 17 games. The Sixers edged the Celtics 95-94 on Jan. 29, then didnt win again until beating Detroit last Saturday to avoid setting the longest losing streak in NBA history. Jerryd Bayless scored 23 points for Boston and Brandon Bass finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jeff Green added 15 points for the Celtics, who went 3-12 in March and fell to 0-2 in April. "We have everything to play for," Rondo said. "We have pride as a team. Right now were not displaying that at all." After struggling through the second quarter, the Sixers kept it close until pulling away late in the third and never allowing the Celtics to retake the lead. "Im sure theyve had their down moments, obviously, throughout their losing streak, but tonight wasnt one of them," Boston coach Brad Stevens said. "They played well. We played not well. Thats that." Philadelphia closed the third period on an 11-2 run and led 76-71 entering the fourth quarter. The Sixers held Boston without a point for nearly four minutes in the third before Kelly Olynyk ended Bostons drought on a putback with 14 seconds left. Philadelphia opened the fourth on a 6-2 run and held a nine-point lead three different times before the Celtics made a run and cut the lead to 89-86 on a three-point play by Green with 6:04 left to play. Carter-Williams got the Sixers running again with a layup, then took a steal in for another layup and scored seven during an 11-4 run that put Philadelphia in command at 100-90 with 2:21 remaining. After opening the game 2 for 11 and committing seven turnovers in the first quarter, the Celtics overcame the sluggish start in the second period and outrebounded Philadelphia 16-8. Trailing 31-28, the Celtics came up with back-to-back offensive rebounds on one possession before Bayless hit a 3-pointer to tie it. Notes: The Celtics outscored the Sixers 34-26 in the second period despite making only 10 of 26 shots. ... Тема: his arrest last summer.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell responded Thursday night to criticisms by NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith, who contended a double standard exists when it comes to the league doling out punishments. In comments to ESPN earlier Thursday, Smith specifically addressed the delayed discipline of Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, who has yet to be punished by Goodell after being arrested in March for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated and while in the possession of prescription drugs and $29,000 in cash. Irsay was formally charged Friday. "The personal conduct policy applies to commissioners, owners, players, coaches," Goodell told reporters at the New England Patriots team facility. "It applies to all of us. We all have a responsibility to do things the right way. There are several players that we havent taken any action on, either. "We like to get the facts, we like to be thorough and we like to understand them. Charges were just filed last week. I dont believe theres a credibility gap." Goodell was at Foxborough to speak at a football safety clinic for mothers, a program aimed at furthering safer play at all levels of the game. Smith pointed toward Goodells swift and sometimes harsh action when dealing with troubled players in the past. "The commissioner understands that there is a significant credibility gap that exists in the National Football League," Smith said. "What troubles our players is the speed and the deliberateness of the punishment that they have seen in the past when it comes to a player. "There isnt the same speed or deliberate action when it comes to an owner, and thats a problem." Goodell said the league has yet to collect all the facts on Irsays case. "You can judge us when we make our final determinations, which you undoubtedly will, and so will everybody else," he said. "Thats fair. But dont make judgments until weve had an opportunity to do whats in the best interest of everyone, which is getting the facts. Everybody wants process. DeMaurice Smith talks about process all the time. "The process is important." The safety program organized by the Patriots comes more than a week after a group of retired players filed another lawsuit against the league, accusing team doctors and trainers of supplying them with powerful painkillers and other drugs that allowed them to keep playing despite injuries, but led to serious complications later in life. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of more than 500 former players, charges the NFL with placing profits ahead of players health. Goodell addressed the leagues continued role in the education and pursuit of safer play. "We want you to learn the right techniques from the moment you play, regardless if you play one year, two years, or if you play flag football," he said. "I think our popularity, the platform we have, gives us an opportunity and its part of our responsibility to make the game safer, not only at the NFL level to protect our players, but also at every other level of football, and frankly, sports in general." Patriots owner Robert Kraft said the health and safety of his players have never been greater in his 20-plus years of owning the team. "I know Im a better human being from having played the game, and when I played, it wasnt as safe as it is now," he said. "So, Im a big believer in the lessons you learn in football." Kraft also was asked about the arraignment Wednesday of former New England tight end Aaron Hernandez, who pleaded not guilty to two more counts of first-degree murder stemming from a 2012 double homicide. Hernandez already is facing charges for the 2013 slaying of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Hernandez was released by the team following his arrest last summer. "A year ago when he was arrested, we cut him from the team, I made a statement," said Kraft, who at the time said the organization was "duped" if the accusations were true. "I was very clear about it, and you can go back and read what I said then, and thats the way that I continuously feel." CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- LeBron James called comments on an audio recording of a man identified as Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling "appalling" and said hes not sure if he would suit up for the remainder of the NBA playoffs if he played for the Clippers. "Theres no room for Donald Sterling in the NBA -- there is no room for him," the Heat forward said Saturday night before a playoff game against the Charlotte Bobcats. The league said Saturday it was investigating the recording posted on TMZs website, calling the comments "disturbing and offensive." James said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver should take swift action if the comments are found to be made by Sterling. "Obviously, if the reports are true its unacceptable in our league," James said. "It doesnt matter, white, black or Hispanic -- all across the races its unacceptable. As the commissioner of our league they have to make a stand. They have to be very aggressive with it. Basketball is huge and the playoffs have been unbelievable so far and I hate that something has to come out." In the recording, the man on the recorder questions his girlfriends association with minorities. James said hes not angry about the comments, just disappointed. "I can only imagine if a player came out and said something of that stature what would happen to us as players," James said. Oklahoma City, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - Russell Westbrooks 29-point outing, his career-best 11th straight game with 25-plus, helped the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 98-75 win over the Charlotte Hornets. Westbrook had to take a bulk of the scoring load once again because his star teammate, Kevin Durant, sat for a fifth consecutive game due to a sprained ankle. Serge Ibaka scored 13 points with a season-high 14 rebounds and Anthony Morrow chipped in 11 points for Oklahoma City, which won for a second straight day after a two-game skid. The Thunder were coming off a 114-106 win over San Antonio on Christmas. We talked about playing every night, playing with a defensive brand every night. Back-to-back games now... I was proud of our defensive effort, Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. Brian Roberts paced the Hornets with 17 points off the bench and Marvin Williams added 11 points in a reserve role. Charlotte had its season-high four-game winning streak snapped and dropped its eighth straight game in the series. Westbrook had a productive first half, scoring 19 points to help his team take a comfortable lead into the locker room at the break. Charlottes Cody Zeller opened the scoring with a jumper, then Westbrook scored six points during a 9-0 burst for the Thunder. Westbrook found Ibaka for a 3-pointer later in the frame to extend the lead to double digits and Oklahoma City entered the second up 33-24. Theyre so good defensively, we just had trouble in the first quarter making shots, Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said. We played a very good team and they played well. The Thunder then scored the first eight points of the second, and Westbrooks jumper with over four minutes to go in the quarter giving Oklahoma City a 53-34 cushion and it led 59-40 at halftime. Oklahoma City was held scoreless for the first 3:51 of the third but Charlotte could not take advantage, scoring just four points over that span. Westbrook scored six straight points during a 17-4 run that started with Ibakas jumper that ended the scoring drought, with the Thunder opening up a 76-49 lead at the end of the spurt. Morrows trey capped the scoring in the quarter and helped the hosts to an 81-56 lead entering the fourth. Jayson Werth and Denard Span had three hits each for Washington, which had lost 6 of 7. Previously slumping, Washingtons offence has 14 runs and 30 hits in its last two games. Strasburg (4-4) allowed two unearned runs, though his error led to them, and six hits. He struck out nine and walked one. It was the eighth straight start in which Strasburg has pitched at least six innings and allowed three runs or less. He improved his ERA to a season-low 3.15. Adrian Beltre had three hits for Texas, which fell to 6-3 on its 11-game road trip. Rangers starter Colby Lewis (4-4) allowed six runs, five earned, and nine hits in taking his first road loss. Strasburg had thrown 88 pitches when manager Matt Williams lifted him in the sixth for a pinch-hitter with two outs and two on. Washington trailed 2-0 in the fourth when Werth and Adam LaRoche singled with one out. Lewis struck out Wilson Ramos, but Desmond sent a 1-0 fastball into the seats in centre field for his 10th home run. Span used his speed to make it 4-2 after he singled in the fifth. First baseman Mitchh Morelands throw back to the third was wild and Span scored on the error.dddddddddddd Texas took the lead during a bizarre second inning. Beltre doubled leading off, but Strasburg stuck out the next two hitters and should have been out of the inning when Leonys Martin hit a slow bouncer to the mound. Martin was safe on the error with Beltre moving to third. Strasburg then surrendered RBI singles to the Nos. 8 and 9 hitters, Rougned Odor and Lewis. OKLAHOMA CITY -- Thunder fans who braved ice, snow and single-digit temperatures got a special treat -- a look at the old Russell Westbrook. The three-time All-Star scored 26 points to lead Oklahoma City past the Charlotte Bobcats 116-99 Sunday night. He was 10 of 12 from the floor in 25 minutes in his fifth game since returning from right knee surgery. He has steadily improved and is looking more like the player he was before he missed 27 games. "He was aggressive all night, playing downhill on the pick and rolls," said Thunder forward Kevin Durant, who finished with 28 points. "He was just great tonight. That was good to see." Westbrook said he needed time to get comfortable again. "The more I play, the more rhythm Im able to catch and the more rhythm Im able to get," he said. Reggie Jackson scored 17 points and Serge Ibaka had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Thunder, who won their second straight after losing their first three games following the All-Star break. Oklahoma City outrebounded the Bobcats 44-29. Durant made just 8 of 24 field goals, but sank all 12 of his free throws. He also had six rebounds and five assists. "I get a lot of shots, man," Durant said. "Theres going to be nights when I feel like that. Its a part of the game, and I think thats the beauty of the game -- just trying to fight through the obstacles, do what I can to help my team." Al Jefferson scored 25 points and Anthony Tolliver added 17 for the Bobcats, who had won four straight before losses to San Antonio and Oklahoma City. The Thunder made 13 of 24 shots in the fourth quarter to outscore the Bobcats 31-18. Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said his team had the wrong mindset to close the game. "I think through three quarters we did a good job, but we came out in the fourth, and again, particularly when they brought their starters back, we just couldnt contain the ball and couldnt keep the ball out of the paint, which has been something weve been good at all year," he said. Westbrook scored 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting in the first half to help the Thunder take a 61-55 lead at the break. "He set the tone the first half," Clifford said. "He always plays with high energy, and if hes going to make all the shots, then theyre going to be hard to beat." Jefferson had 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting. The Bobcats shot 54 per cent in the first half, but were outrebounded 20-13. The Bobcats started off hot in the second half. A 3-point play by Gerald Henderson trimmed Oklahoma Citys lead to 61-60. The Thunder responded with a 6-0 run, including two putback baskets by Steven Adams, to take a 67-60 lead. Westbrook showed some of his explosiveness after a steal. He drove down court, then extended his right arm and elevated for a powerful one-handed throwdown to give the Thunder a 77-67 lead. "Tonight, he was phenomenal," Durant said. "He was great. That dunk capped it off." The Bobcats hung tough and trailed just 85-81 at the end of the third quarter. Charlotte cut the deficit to 86-84 early in the fourth quarter, but the Thunder responded with an 8-2 run. A perfectly executed pick-and-roll ended with Durant scoring on a pass from Westbrook, and Ibaka scored on the next possession to give the Thunder a 104-92 lead and put the game out of reach. Westbrook, who also had five assists, dominated from the start. "I thought Russell really had a great command of the game," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "I think it is good to see him continue to get his game legs under him. I give the staff a lot of credit. They have put him in a position to get better day by day." NOTES: Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti announced before the game that Thunder guard Thabo Sefolosha would miss four to six weeks with a left calf strain. Sefolosha left Fridays game against Memphis in the first half and didnt return. ... Several Oklahoma City players, including Durant and Westbrook, travelled to Stillwater, Okla., Saturday night to watch Oklahoma State upset No. 5 Kansas. ... The Raptors are 1-1 so far on the five-game junket after defeating Denver and losing to Portland.LOS ANGELES - Chris Paul dribbled, his eyes darting to the shot clock, and kept dribbling. He was going to hold on to the ball and go for the win. Paul made a driving layup with 5 seconds to go, lifting the Los Angeles Clippers over the Portland Trail Blazers 98-97 on Friday night as they tied their season high with their fourth straight victory. "This aint my first time," he said, having successfully closed yet another win in the final seconds for the Clippers. "I thought they might trap, but as I saw them go away, I tried to attack and get to the rim." The franchise that long was the laughingstock of the NBA has won 11 of its 20 games decided by five points or less. Paul has often been the catalyst, whether he scores himself or dishes off. "Hes so crafty with the ball. Hes not a fast player, but hes deceptive," Portlands J.J. Hickson said. "It looks like hes going one way, and hes really going the other way. He has a crazy in-and-out, and he knows how to finish around the rim with a lot of bigs jumping toward the ball." Paul, Blake Griffin and Randy Foye led six Clippers in double-figures with 20 points each. Caron Butler and DeAndre Jordan had 12 each, and Nick Young added 10. Griffin had 13 rebounds and Paul had 14 assists as they moved within a game of the first-place Lakers in the Pacific Division. "Guys made plays and Foye stepped up," Griffin said. "Hes played really well for us all season." The Clippers trailed by two when Paul got the ball to Foye, who hit a 3-pointer with 47 seconds left to put the Clippers ahead 96-95. "J.J. Hickson was right there, so I just shot the ball," Foye said. "It seemed like as soon as CP threw the ball to me, it was in slow motion and I just shot the ball and held my follow-through." Jamal Crawford made a 22-footer with Foyes hand in his face and Portland led 97-96 with 13 seconds left. "I thought it would be enough, but we just couldnt get that one stop," Crawford said. Wesley Matthews missed a running jumper in the waning seconds for Portland, which had drawn up the final play for Crawford. "Paul took him out of it," Blazers interim coach Kaleb Canales said. "Wesley got the ball and took it to the basket and there was a tough no-call." Hickson led the Blazers with a season-high 29 points and 13 rebounds, filling in for injured All--Star LaMarcus Aldridge.dddddddddddd "It means nothing when you dont win," Hickson said. "I would have loved to have gotten the win and been in here laughing and talking about it, but its tough when you dont win after playing a great ballgame. It kind of goes down the drain." Nicolas Batum added 18 points, Crawford 14, and Matthews 12 as the Blazers fell to 7-19 on the road. Aldridge missed the game because of a sprained left elbow he sustained in a win against New Orleans a night earlier. Hickson scored six straight points and Raymond Felton added a 3-pointer to give Portland an 89-83 lead, its largest of the fourth quarter. Griffin made two free throws -- the only time in the quarter that a Clipper hit both attempts -- and Paul scored to draw them within two. "Hes been the difference-maker this year," Griffin said about Paul. Hickson missed both free throws with 57 seconds left and the Blazers ahead 95-93, but they went on to lose for the third time in four meetings against the Clippers. "Ive got to make free throws, and weve got to get stops as a team," Hickson said. "I take the fall for this one." Paul and Foye hit 3-pointers early in the third quarter, when the Clippers led by eight. The Blazers rallied to tie it at 62 on consecutive 3-pointers by Crawford and Luke Babbitt. From there, it was back-and-forth with the Blazers tying it twice more. Kenyon Martins putback with three-tenths of a second left gave the Clippers a 73-70 lead going into the fourth. The Clippers led until early in the second quarter, when the Blazers scored 15 straight points to go ahead 35-25 helped by 3-pointers from Babbitt, Jonny Flynn and Batum. Los Angeles responded by outscoring Portland 21-8 to end the half ahead 46-43. Foye scored his first 12 points in the run, including three 3-pointers, and Paul capped it with a twisting driving layup at the buzzer that landed him on the floor. Notes: The Clippers also won four straight from Jan. 26-Feb. 1. ... They have scored 100 or more points once in their last 14 games against the Blazers. ... Clippers F Reggie Evans was fined $25,000 for making an obscene gesture during Mondays game against New Orleans. He admitted he made the gesture, but he said it wasnt directed at the fans. Evans said he was responding to an inside joke between him and teammates Griffin and Jordan, who were teasing him from the bench. ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Vancouver Canucks are at the point in the season where every loss could end their playoff hopes. Those hopes are still alive after a big road win over Minnesota. David Booth scored two unassisted goals and Eddie Lack made 29 saves to lead Vancouver over the Wild 5-2 on Wednesday. Zack Kassian, Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler also scored for Vancouver as the Canucks try to make a late push to overtake Phoenix and Dallas for the Western Conferences final wild-card playoff spot. "Its huge, were in a do-or-die position," Alexandre Burrow said. "If we would have lost this game we probably would have been out of the race." Minnesota outshot Vancouver 31-19 and got goals from Charlie Coyle and Nino Niederreiter, but lost its third straight at home. Booth scored for the second consecutive game after going scoreless in his previous 32. On his first goal, Booth took the puck the length of the ice after a faceoff and fired it past Darcy Kuemper. Booths second goal broke a 1-1 tie in the second period and came after Jared Spurgeon whiffed on a pass in the Wild zone, leading to a bad turnover and a point-blank look for Booth. "We didnt generate a ton of shots, but we were able to capitalize on the ones we did," Booth said. Minnesota, currently holding the first wild-card spot in the West, controlled play for most of the first two periods, but failed to capitalize on four power plays and fell behind 3-1. Even though his team was generating chances early, Wild coach Mike Yeo was nervous. "Especially in that first period, were out chancing them, were outshooting them, but still. Just didnt quite have the right feel," he said. Ilya Bryzgalov took over for the slumping Kuemper after two periods. Kuemper allowed three goals in 12 shots, the fifth time in his last seven start hes allowed at least three goals. "Dont feel good about that one," Kuemper said. "Obviously we were controlling the play and to find ourselves down 3-1, yeah Ive got to help the guys out a little bit better." The switch didnt get Minnesota going. Vancouver killed an early third period power play, and then put the game away on Sedins goal at 11:12 to make it 4-1. "I didnt think we played great, but we stuck with it and at the end we came out with a big win," Sedin said. "For sure, its something to build." The goal was Sedins first in his last 23 games and his first point in his last 13. Coyles goal was his third in three games. The centre had scored only once in his previous 24 games. Lack got a little help in the second period from Alexander Edler. Zach Parise stuffed the puck between Lacks pads, but just before it crossed the goal line, Edler swept it away. "We know its do-or-die now and we got to come up with the same kind of effort tomorrow," Lack said. Vancouver has won six of its last nine after losing 11 of 12. Both Phoenix and Dallas were idle on Wednesday. The Canucks now have 78 points, Dallas 79 and Phoenix 82. Henrik Sedin missed the game with a leg injury and didnt make the trip. As Minnesota tries to hang on to its playoff position, Yeo has to answer questions about his goaltending situation. "I want to be careful on that one. Im not saying that we cant be any better between the pipes, but at the same time theres some quality chances that were giving up," he said. "Obviously, we have to do our part to make sure those guys are in the right frame of mind." NOTES: Wild G Niklas Backstrom and F Jason Zucker each underwent successful surgeries yesterday and should be ready for the start of the 2014-15 season. Backstrom had core muscle surgery and Zucker had a tendon in his left quadriceps repaired. ... F Alexandre Burrows played for Vancouver after missing Sundays game with a hand injury. ... The Sedins have only played in two games together in March. ... The Wild beings a four-game road trip in St. Louis on Thursday. Alex Maglia . According to the Washington Post, the Washington Capitals placed Green on the long-term injured list on Thursday meaning he wont be back in the lineup before February 1st. Antonio Nocerino AC Milan Maglia . - The Tampa Bay Times is reporting Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams was stabbed in the thigh at his home and an arrest warrant has been issued for his brother. http://www.acmilanproshop.it/giacomo-bonaventura-maglia.html . -- LeGarrette Blount wasnt satisfied with three short touchdown runs, not against a team coming off the second greatest comeback in playoff history. Jose Mauri AC Milan Maglia . The veteran right-hander went out and provided a promising flashback performance against the New York Yankees, even after another leadoff homer by Brett Gardner. The Rangers clinched their first series in a month with a 3-2 victory Wednesday night. Luiz Adriano AC Milan Maglia . If one fighter gases, he usually gets beat up pretty bad from that point on.PHILADELPHIA -- The Toronto Maple Leafs opted for some young Swedish sizzle in picking William Nylander eighth overall in the NHL draft Friday. "Hes got high-, high-end skill. He might be the most skilled player in the draft," said Toronto GM Dave Nonis. "Electrifying," he added. "He has NHL speed, NHL hands and an NHL shot right now. Its whether or not the rest of his game can catch up." The son of former NHLer Michael Nylander, William was named best forward at the 2014 Under-18 World Championship after leading all players in assists (10) and points (16) in seven games for Sweden. Nylander, who was born in Calgary but lives in Stockholm, had one goal and six assists in 22 games with Swedens Modo this season. Just five foot nine and 169 pounds, the baby-faced Nylander looks younger than his years. "Hes grown a lot in the last 12 months ... Hes taller, hes thicker," said Nonis. "Theres a lot of work left there to do, for him. "But in terms of foot speed, puck skills, ability to shoot the puck, hes got all those down right now. So right now its going to be about hard work, getting stronger and prepared to play against North American men. Hes already played in the mens league in Sweden, hes not a kid thats been playing junior. Hes been playing in the (Swedish) elite League against some pretty highly skilled and strong players already, which bodes well for us." Nylander is a free agent in Sweden, meaning he is free to come to North America. "Hell definitely have a chance to make our team," said Nonis, while acknowledging it would be a "long shot" for him to crack the Leaf linneup as an 18-year-old.dddddddddddd. "Hell be given that opportunity and if hes good enough to stick and play and contribute, then we would keep him. And if not, well decide at that point whether its best to keep him over in North America or to have him go back to Sweden and play in the Elite League." Quizzed about being ready for the NHL, Nylander said: "Id say my goal is for next year, but if that doesnt happen, probably Ill go back to Sweden or play in the AHL." Asked to describe his game, Nylander said: "I like to score goals and make plays and work hard on both ends of the ice." Shaving looks like it wont be a problem for a while. Nonis says the young Nylander makes spectacular plays. "Those highlights happen on a regular occurrence," said Nonis. "So I think hell be a very exciting player for our fans. He can move the puck, hes not just a guy who can carry it and snipe it. Hes a good playmaker and at the under-18s, if you look at the points totals he threw up there, they were pretty impressive." Nonis also liked the way the young Swede stood up to the Canadians when the two teams met at the tournament. "I think he was tying to prove a point," he said. Nonis said the Leafs were looking to move down in the draft had two players not been available by their pick. Nylander was one, he did not name the other. Michael Nylander played for seven teams (Hartford, Calgary, Tampa Bay, Chicago, Washington, Boston and the Rangers) during his 920-game, 15-season NHL career. William played briefly with his father last season when he was loaned to Rogle in Swedens second division. The 23-year-old Edinburgh winger replaced the injured Tommy Seymour on the right flank, who has not recovered from an ankle injury. Max Evans came in for Sean Lamont on the opposite wing. "Im absolutely delighted and cant wait. The Millennium Stadium with the roof closed, I dont think it could be much better to be honest," said Fife. He will become the second new cap of Scotlands campaign after Chris Fusaro also made his debut in this years tournament. "Hes been ear-marked by us for a while, weve been following him for the last 12 months, and hes got his reward now," said Scotland head coach Scott Johnson. DENVER -- With Steve Nash and Grant Hill not playing for Phoenix on Tuesday night, Arron Afflalo and Chris Andersen knew the Nuggets were getting a gift from the Suns. They didnt let the opportunity go to waste. Afflalo scored 20 points, Chris Andersen had 16 points, seven rebounds and six blocks and Denver broke open a close game in the third quarter to beat the short-handed Suns 109-92. Ty Lawson scored 17 points and rookie Kenneth Faried had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Nuggets, who snapped a five-game home losing streak. "It was huge," Afflalo said of winning at home. "It was a great win for us in Indiana but this was even more important because weve got to start establishing ourselves on our home court to let teams know its not going to be an easy walk here." Markieff Morris had 21 points, Michael Redd had 20 points and Marcin Gortat had 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Suns. Canadian star Nash and Hill sat out to rest and avoid risking getting hurt Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry said before the game. "Theyre a little run down. I dont feel its necessary to stick them out there with the possibility of injury," he said. The Nuggets appreciated not having to face the NBAs assist leader. "Phoenix kind of gave us a some slack by not playing Nash," Nuggets coach George Karl said. Without them in the lineup the Suns struggled early but came on strong after halftime. Denver was up 58-51 at halftime but Redd, who got the start for Hill and had 11 points at the half, led a Phoenix surge after intermission. He hit two three-pointers and converted a three-point play to tie the game at 62-all with 8:47 left in the third. "We played well enough to tie it up, we just couldnt keep up that pace," Redd said. The Nuggets quickly grabbed control again with their defence aand the scoring of Afflalo.dddddddddddd. Lawson had two steals, one of which led to a clear-path foul, and Kosta Koufas had two blocked shots as Denver went on a 24-8 run to end the third. Afflalo led the way on offence, scoring 13 points after it was tied, including a three-pointer and two free throws that made it 86-70 heading into the fourth. "We started running again," Afflalo said. "We were running the court hard, we made a few big defensive possessions -- those feed our energy." The Nuggets held Phoenix to 33 per cent shooting. Andersen has struggled to find minutes lately but he made the most of them Tuesday. It was the third time in his career he has registered at least 15 points, five rebounds and five blocks in one game. "Thats Birdman. Definitely a wild card," Lawson said. "He was blocking everything." The Nuggets took advantage of the absence of Nash and Hill to jump out to a 10-0 lead. Denver stretched the lead to 33-19 on Rudy Fernandezs three-pointer late in the first. The Nuggets quickly increased the advantage to 16 points at the start of the second quarter before Phoenix made a charge behind Redd and Morris. Morris scored 11 of his 13 first-half points in the period and Redd scored seven points -- including a three-pointer -- in the final 1:51 of the half as the Suns pulled to within five with 19 seconds left before half. "We missed some early shots and that didnt shake us because we were able to get back into the game," Gentry said. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Adrian Beltre has a mild left quadriceps strain that will keep him out of the lineup for now, but the Texas Rangers plan to wait and see if their third baseman can avoid a trip to the disabled list. "Were going to kind of play it conservatively. Were going to give him a few days," general manager Jon Daniels said Thursday. "Weve got some flexibility with our roster right now." Beltre came out of Tuesdays game at Boston, then returned home for an MRI and exam by team physician Dr. Keith Meister. The Rangers were off Thursday before a 10-day homestand. Daniels said Meister was "pleasantly surprised" that the strain wasnt as severe as initially thought. Beltre has had a history of quad and hamstring issues, and knows how to manage those. The Rangers have roster flexibility until they have to activate right-hander Colby Lewis for his first start since July 2012. He has been rehabbing from hip surgery that followed elbow surgery. "Until we activate him, weve got that extra spot. Originally we were thinking of starting Colby on Saturday," Daniels said. "Were going to push it back. We could push it back as late as Tuesday. That will give us some time for Adrian to see how hes feeling and four our medical staff to evaluate him, whether or not hell ultimately go on the DL, or that period of time will be enough to where he can manage." Keselowski turned a track-record lap of 140.598 mph Friday to win the pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Keselowski is coming off consecutive victories at Richmond and the Chase for the Sprint Cup opener last week at Chicagoland. He swept the Cup and Nationwide races at New Hampshire in July. The Team Penske driver has five poles this season and leads the series with five victories. He has eight poles in 189 career Sprint Cup starts. "This kind of track is kind of right in my wheelhouse, right in our teams wheelhouse," Keselowski said. "We had this race circled before the Chase started and we felt decent about Chicago, but really felt like this was a race of emphasis for us to get a win and get out of the first bracket." Jamie McMurray, a non-Chase driver, was second. Chase drivers took the next seven spots. Kevin Harvick was third, followed by Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Carl Edwards and Ryan Newman. Chase drivers Ryan Newman, Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jeff Gordon took 11th to 13th. Kurt Busch is 15th, Matt Kenseth 16th and Kasey Kahne 17th. Aric Almirol starts 22nd and Greg Biffle had the worst qualifying effort of any Chase driver and will start 26th. Tony Stewart will start 28th in the No. 14 Chevrolet, his second-worst qualifying run of the season. Stewart was in the car for the first time since he learned a grand jury will decide his fate in the fatal sprint car crash in upstate New York. Kyle Larson was 10th and was the fastest qualifying rookie. "I dont think anybody has anything for Brad right now," Larson said. &"Its pretty amazing how fast he is everywhere we go.dddddddddddd." Larson finished third at Chicagoland and one of NASCARs top rookies still believed he could finish the season with his first career Sprint Cup win. Many of NASCARs elite drivers, from Jeff Gordon to Tony Stewart, have long been wowed by the natural speed, talent and versatility flashed by the 22-year-old Larson. Gordon even came over to Larson last week moment after the race ended to offer some advice on restarts. Gordon -- and so many others -- believe Larson will win soon. Especially Larson. "Yeah, every race I will sit in the motorhome and watch TV and flip to Twitter. Everybody always says this is your weekend," Larson said. "I believe them, but it kind of sucks when you dont win. But I definitely feel like we are really close. We have been close a couple of times this year." Keselowski is trying to become the first driver to repeat at New Hampshire since Kurt Busch in 2004 and would end a streak of 13 different winners in the last 13 races at NHMS. Keselowski has four (Phoenix, Dover, Kentucky) of the 19 track records set this season. Keselowskis win in the Chase opener guaranteed him a spot in the next round of the Chase. Under NASCARs elimination format, four drivers will be knocked out after every third race. Keselowski is the top seed in the 16-driver field. Keselowski might be the No. 1 seed, but he knows an upset can always rattle the bracket. "Its positive momentum," he said, "but when it resets it resets and nothing that youve done in the past really matters as long as youre eligible for the bracket. Im a long, long ways from using the word favourite or feeling overly confident." Rich Franklin is shooting for the stars with his idea for one final fight in the UFC. With one bout left on his contract, the teacher-turned-fighter is quite enthusiastic about the possibility of completing the trilogy with former middleweight champion Anderson Silva and even beating him for the first time. "Would I fight Anderson a third time? Absolutely," Franklin said on Submission Radio on Monday. "Is it because I feel like I have some unfinished business? Not at all. Its just, in my mind as a champion and to have the mentality of a champion I 100 per cent, wholeheartedly believe that I can beat Anderson in a fight." Franklin has lost to Silva in each of their two previous matchups, both via TKO by way of knees. In the first contest at UFC 64, Franklin lost the Middleweight Championship in what was the beginning of Silvas record reign with the title. But Franklin has been long since removed from his tussles with Silva. Since his second loss to the Brazilian at UFC 77 in October 2007, Franklin went on to face a slew of top talent. He beat Wanderlei Silva twice and Chuck Liddel once, but fell to veterans Dan Henderson, Forrest Griffin and Cung Le along the way. He has not fought since his knockout defeat by Le in November 2012. But Franklin says none of that matters. To him, the matchup seems a favourable one. "It wouldnt be for any reason like redemption or vengeance or retribution or any other kinda cool word that weve seen on a UFC poster before, but yeah I would fight him and I believe I could beat him." The water on the Silva subject is muddy right now though. After breaking his leg in his most recent bout with now Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman, the 39-year-old has ruled himself out for the entire year and isnt expected back until 2015. As for Franklin, who would be 40 by the time the bout could happen, he doesnt think Silva is down for the count just yet. "Id look for him (Silva) to return and Id look for him to hunt for the title again at some point in time," says Franklin. "Well just see if he can get there." Cheap Nike Air Max 90 Free Shipping . MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings arent wasting any time getting their draft picks signed. The team announced Tuesday that first-round draft pick Teddy Bridgewater and seventh-rounders Shamar Stephen and Brandon Watts have signed their contracts. The Vikings were also working on finishing first-rounder Anthony Barrs contract. The deals leave only three unsigned picks from the Vikings class. The Vikings traded up to get Bridgewater, a quarterback from Louisville, with the last pick of the first round so they could lock him into a four-year contract that includes a team option for the fifth season. Broncos receiver Wes Welker is one of just four men ever to catch an NFL pass from both Brady and Manning and the only one to catch more than four passes from both. Welker refused to compare the two at his press conference this week, saying, "Its like comparing Picasso and Michelangelo. Its hard to do." The comparison of the two, seeing as they play the same position, in the same conference and in the same league may not be quite as difficult. Mannings career downfalls have always come in the playoffs. With Manning under centre, the Colts exited the playoffs in their first game of the postseason seven times in 11 trips. For his regular season achievements, Manning was named NFL MVP in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009. He is the only four-time MVP in NFL history. Despite all of his successes with the Colts, Mannings legacy with the team is overshadowed by just one Super Bowl victory - against the Chicago Bears in 2006. Manning threw for 247 yards in the game with one touchdown and one interception. He was named Super Bowl MVP. The Colts made it back to the Super Bowl three years later in 2009 against the New Orleans Saints. Manning threw for 333 yards in the game and one touchdown, however a crucial interception, down 24-17 late in the fourth quarter ended the Colts hopes for another Lombardi trophy. Manning signed with the Denver Broncos in 2012 and once again put up strong regular season numbers - 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He was named comeback player of the year and MVP runner-up. Howevver, after a 13-3 regular season record, the Broncos lost in their first playoff game to the Baltimore Ravens in double overtime.dddddddddddd In 2013, Manning came out impassioned and put up the best numbers of his careers, starting by tying an NFL record with seven touchdowns in a game in the Broncos season opener. Manning set NFL records in touchdowns (55) and yards (5477). The Broncos won their first game of the playoffs against the San Diego Chargers and earned the right to host the AFC Championship game. Brady started his career with great success, winning the Super Bowl three times in his first four seasons as a starting quarterback; twice being named Super Bowl MVP. However, Brady hasnt been crowned NFL champion since. In 2007, Brady had the best season of his career, throwing for a record 50 touchdowns passes while leading the Patriots to a perfect 16-0 record. Brady was named NFL MVP for his efforts. As the team approached becoming the first team in NFL history to go 19-0, they met the New York Giants in the Super Bowl. The Patriots lost 17-14 to Giants and Peyton Mannings younger brother, Eli, was named Super Bowl MVP. In 2011, New England reached the Super Bowl again and Brady was named the NFL MVP for the second time in his career. The Patriots once again played the Giants in the Super Bowl and once again lost. This season, Brady led the Patriots into the playoffs for a fifth straight season and after a decisive victory over the Colts in the divisional round, Brady is one game away from reaching the sixth Super Bowl of his career. Something no quarterback has ever done. Manning ranks above Brady in almost every career statistic. Manning also has the edge in league MVPs 4-2, however, Bradys three Super Bowl trophies loom large over Peytons lone victory over Rex Grossmans Chicago Bears. Theres little doubt that Brady and Manning will go down as two of the greatest passers in NFL history, but which quarterback will leave the NFL with the greater legacy, Manning or Brady?
