MEDICINE HAT, Alta. -- Tommy Vannelli scored in overtime for Medicine Hat as the Tigers edged the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday. Vannelli beat Brandon goaltender Jordan Papirny just 32 seconds into OT on the power play. Cole Cheveldave finished with 26 saves for the Raiders, while Landon Bow stopped 30 shots for Swift Current. --- SILVERTIPS 3 HURRICANES 2 LETHBRIDGE, Alta. -- Tyler Sandhu gave the Silvertips the only lead they would need against the WHLs worst team. Dominik Volek scored twice for Red Deer (11-12-1), and Evan Polei added a single. Jayden Sittler stopped 27 shots for Kootenay after replacing starting goaltender Wyatt Hoflin, who allowed three goals on 12 shots. Patrik Bartosak stopped 39 shots for the Rebels. --- ROYALS 4 ROCKETS 1 KELOWNA, B.C. -- The Royals handed the Rockets their first loss in 10 games. ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — When his father, Tie, played for the Maple Leafs, Max Domi took to the ice after morning skates and imagined playing a game at Air Canada Centre. Its pretty close to happening, Domi said Thursday. Domi and the rest of Canadas world junior team will face Russia tonight in its first exhibition game to prepare for the upcoming championship tournament. Its a chance for coach Benoit Groulx, his staff and the management team to make some final roster decisions. For Domi, its an opportunity to live out part of a lifelong hockey dream. A prospect with the Arizona Coyotes whos starring in his fourth season with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, he spent much of his youth in Toronto. The whole experience is going to be pretty special, for sure, Domi said. Its something were all looking forward to. But weve got to take care of business and weve got to beat the Russians. In downplaying his trip to Toronto, Domi seems to have bought into Groulxs concern about what the environment could do to the 19-year-old forward. I think its big for Max to go to Toronto and play a game, Groulx said Wednesday. I think its going to be very important for him to manage his emotion, to stay calm and focus on what hes got to do, not on being in Toronto where his dad used to be a star. Tie Domi spent 10 full seasons and parts of two others with the Leafs. During that time, Max developed a love for one specific part of games at Air Canada Centre: the cookies in the family lounge. Theyre unbelievable, man, Domi said. I dont know what it is. They have different guys names and their numbers. (Mats) Sundin was my guy, so I shoved them all in my pockets and just ran away and they were all gone before I got home. Domi is close to his fathers size at five-foot-nine and 194 pounds but brings much sharper offensive skills. In 214 games with London, Domi has 287 points on 111 goals and 176 assists. Groulx said Domi had a good summer camp with Canadas world junior team and hasnt seen that play drop off. Domi has 58 points in 27 games so far this season. I watched him play three times from September to November, and every time I watched him play he was good, Groulx said. So Im not surprised the way hes performing here so far. We expect him to be a good player for us. Domi spent this week of training camp as the first-line left-winger alongside Sam Reinhart and Anthony Duclair. Thats major billing for the 2013 first-round pick, skating with the No. 2 selection in 2014 and a player who has spent the bulk of this NHL season with the New York Rangers. Over the past year, Domi said he has tried to work on his 200-foot game and become a more complete player. Groulx liked what he saw out of Domi at camp. I like the way he works, the poise that he has with the puck, Groulx said. He seems to be very confident. Some of that confidence comes from Domis speed, which teammates know is one of his biggest assets. Hes a good guy in the room, centre Connor McDavid said. And on the ice he can absolutely fly with the puck and he can make so many special plays. Just an unbelievable player. http://www.airforcescarpe.it/uomo-donne-nike-air-huarache-gs-sneakers-nere-lupo-grigio-654275-001.html . CHICAGO -- Considering how long it had been, its no surprise that Travis Wood was just a little relieved. Wood pitched six strong innings for his first win as a starter in more than a year, and the Chicago Cubs beat the White Sox 2-1 on Tuesday night even though Jake Peavy again went the distance. "Get the first one, get the monkey off your back, and hopefully, you start rolling from here," Wood said. David DeJesus drove in both runs with a single in the third inning. He led off the ninth with a triple, but Peavy struck out Steve Clevenger looking at a 2-2 pitch with runners on second and third. The Cubs handed the White Sox their sixth loss in seven games. The North Siders will try to complete the sweep Wednesday after dropping all three at Wrigley Field last month. The White Sox, meanwhile, were shaking their heads, knowing they are now second in the AL Central and a half-game behind Cleveland after clinching their fifth straight series loss. "Teams that we feel we should beat that arent playing that well, we got to show up and take advantage of these opportunities," Peavy said. "Detroit is coming. And we know Cleveland isnt going anywhere." Wood (1-3) was simply terrific. He has spent time in the minors this season after coming from Cincinnati in the trade for Sean Marshall, and he finally came away with his first win since a relief appearance for the Reds at Pittsburgh on Aug. 19. He hadnt won as a starter since he beat the Los Angeles Dodgers last June 15, but he finally got one after allowing one run and four hits while striking out five and walking four. "You always understand the pressures of coming to a new team, especially when you were traded for one of the best relievers in baseball," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "You want to impress. It sure seems like hes relaxed out there, making his pitches and making pitches when he has to." The White Sox threatened in the eighth when James Russell walked Gordon Beckham and Adam Dunn with one out. Manuel Corpas came in, and a sprinting Reed Johnson, who had just replaced Bryan LaHair in right, grabbed Paul Konerkos shallow fly before Alex Rios grounded out to end the inning. Carlos Marmol worked the ninth for his fourth save in six chances, retiring Orlando Hudson on a grounder to end the game after he walked A.J. Pierzynski. Peavy (6-3) took another tough-luck loss in his third complete game. The veteran threw 125 pitches and allowed five hits while striking out five and walking one. He retired 16 straight hitters before Tony Campana singled in the eighth, but came up short again after a 1-0 loss at St. Louis last week. The Cubs didnt get much going after setting season highs for runs, hits (15) and homers (five) in a 12-3 win on Monday, but they still squeezed this one out. The White Sox grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second when right fielder LaHair took a poor route on Alexei Ramirezs ground-rule double to the corner after walks to Rios and Dayan Viciedo. Wood then walked Tyler Flowers to load the bases but retired Hudson on a pop fly and struck out Alejandro De Aza to end the inning. DeJesus came through with the two-run single after Geovany Soto reached on a wide throw by Hudson at third, Campana singled off the pitchers foot and Peavy uncorked a wild pitch to put them on second and third. That was enough on a night when Wood dominated. The Cubs also made several neat defensive plays, including one by shortstop Starlin Castro. He raced back for an over-the-shoulder catch on De Azas bloop to centre, bare-handing the ball after it popped out of his glove. "Unbelievable," Castro said. "I dont know how." Hudson, meanwhile, was fuming at himself for that bad throw on Sotos grounder. "I lost the game for the man (Peavy), thats it," he said. "The man threw a hell of a game, I lost it for him. Point blank. Case closed. We lost. My bad. Thats it." Notes: White Sox pitcher John Danks could begin a rehabilitation assignment in three or four weeks after tests confirmed he has a mild muscle strain in his left shoulder. Two MRIs on Monday showed that Danks has a mild Grade 1 strain of the subscapularis muscle in his left shoulder. There is no tendon or ligament damage and his labrum is intact. ... With Zach Stewart being optioned to Triple-A, the White Sox recalled RHP Dylan Axelrod from the minor league club. Axelrod was with the White Sox from April 27 to May 5, going 0-1 with a 3.52 ERA in three appearances, including one start. He is expected to pitch mostly in long relief. ... Cubs 3B Ian Stewart (15-day DL) received a second cortisone injection to treat a sore left wrist on Monday, this time on top of his left hand. Sveum said he doesnt think surgery is on the table right now. ... Asked if LaHair would have made the catch on Konerko in the eighth, Sveum said, "I dont think LaHair would have gotten to it." http://www.realmadridonlineshop.es/adidas-hombre-camiseta-real-madrid-2015-16-cristiano-ronaldo-7-autenticas-navy-3-equipacion-la-liga-club.html . The other team had its playoff hopes on the line and was trying to save its season.ISTANBUL, Turkey -- The way this season has been going for Serena Williams, there was only one fitting way for it to end. Williams capped a career year in style Sunday, earning her 11th title of 2013 by coming from behind to beat Li Na 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 for her second straight WTA Championships crown. Williams became the eighth woman to win 11 or more titles in a year and the first since Martina Hingis had 12 in 1997. She is also the first to repeat as champion at the season-ending WTA Championships since Justine Henin in 2007. "It was an awesome year of tennis," said Williams, who sank to her knees after firing a backhand winner on her second match point. The victory brought Williams prize money total for the year to $12,385,572. The only player, male or female, to earn more in a year was Novak Djokovic with $12,803,737 in 2012 and $12,619,803 in 2011. The American won her fourth WTA Championship, having captured the elite tournament for the top eight players also in her debut in 2001 and in 2009 and 2012. Williams has won 78 of 82 matches this year and will finish the year as the top-ranked player for the third time in her career after 2002 and 2009. Williams titles this year included the French and U.S. Opens for a total of 17 Grand Slam crowns. Her winning percentage of .951 is the best on the tour since 1990. Martina Navratilova had an 86-1 record and a .989 percentage in 1983. Still, Williams said she would have preferred to have won at least one more Grand Slam title. "I live to win slams. I mean, obviously Im so excited to be the WTA champion," Williams said. "I cant say its the best (season). I cant say its not the best. I dont know. I really dont know." Li was in her first WTA Championships final and will finish the year at a career-high No. 3. The final featured two players above the age of 30 for the first time in the championships 43-year history. Williams is 32 and Li is 31 but both are playing some of their best tennis. Li got off to a better start over a sluggish-looking Williams, who struggled a day earlier to beat Jelena Jankovic and complained later of being exhausted after a long season.dddddddddddd "I felt good this morning, much better than I did yesterday, but then in practice I was like, Oh, no. I was a little worried, but I just hung in there and just kept going and going," Williams said. The Chinese was quick to break serve for a 2-1 lead and rolled through the first set, which ended with Williams netting a forehand and hitting a backhand passing shot wide. Williams won a key game at the start of the second set that went to nine deuces and lasted nearly 12 minutes as the American fended off two break points before finally prevailing with a service winner. "I guess looking back it was definitely a very important game for me to win," Williams said. "She had been on a real roll. I guess I was determined to win that game at any cost." Li blasted an ace, her only one of the match, to level at 3-3. But she produced a double-fault and a forehand error to give Williams a chance to serve out the set. Williams needed three set points to close it out. "After a set and a half, I was feeling no more energy left. Its a tough tournament, because I played five days in a row," Li said. "Every opponent (is in the) top eight, so you never have an easy match in this tournament." It was another double-fault by Li that gave Williams a break of serve at the start of the third and the American never looked back. Williams did have to save five break points, the last one with her sixth ace, before wrapping up the title. Li, the 2011 French Open champion, fell to 1-10 against Williams. She lost a set at 6-0 for the second straight time they played. She won only three games in her loss to Williams in the semifinals of the U.S. Open. "I have a little bit bad taste, because its at love, but I still feel more positive things," Li said. After three years in Istanbul, the tournament moves to Singapore for the next five years. SEPANG, Malaysia - Formula One teams, drivers and officials are preparing to honour the victims of flight MH370 at this weekends Malaysian Grand Prix. Sundays race will be held at the Sepang circuit, adjacent to Kuala Lumpurs main airport where the ill-fated flight took off earlier this month. Authorities now say it is almost certain it crashed in the Indian Ocean, killing all 239 people aboard. The Mercedes team, which is sponsored by Malaysian oil company Petronas, will have messages of support on its cars and driver helmets. Driver Lewis Hamilton said the tragedy is "just heartbreaking" and that "my heart and thoughts go out to the families and friends." F1 officials and local organizers will hold discussions on Thursday about how to best commemorate the loss. Carpenters four RBI included a three-run double in an eight-run seventh inning and the Cardinals held on to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-9 on Friday to open their NL Division Series. Kershaw and Adam Wainwright squared off in the first postseason game in 45 years to featured two 20-win starters with sub-2.40 ERAs. But what was supposed to be a pitchers duel between two staff aces turned into a slugfest, and Kershaw saw the worst of it. The presumptive NL Cy Young Award winner retired 16 batters in a row between Randal Grichuks one-out homer on in the first inning and Carpenters two-out blaast in the sixth and his team had a 6-1 lead after scoring six runs off Wainwright in 4 1/3 innings.dddddddddddd But the first four Cardinals batters hit singles in the seventh, starting a deluge that didnt end until Kershaw was on the bench, presumably wondering how the NL Central champions got the best of him again. Last year, Kershaw gave up seven runs in four innings in the decisive Game 6 of the NL Championship Series, which the Cardinals won 9-0 to reach the World Series for the third time in eight years. The Dodgers brought the go-ahead run to the plate twice in the ninth inning against Cardinals closer Trevor Rosenthal but scored just once and stranded the tying run at third base when Yasiel Puig struck out. DALLAS - The Brooklyn Nets waited until they got to the locker room to dump ice water on coach Jason Kidd after his victorious return to Dallas. They presumably didnt want to make a mess of the court where he was essentially a coach between the lines for the Mavericks when they won the franchises only title in 2011. Joe Johnson scored 22 points, including the tying layup in regulation and the go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime, to lead the Nets past the Mavericks 107-104 Sunday night in Kidds first game as a coach in the city where his career started in 1994 and reached its peak in his second stint 17 years later. The Nets swept the two-game season series with Dallas in their first year under Kidd, who was also celebrating his 41st birthday. "Its a little wet in there," Kidd said, warning of the pile of ice surrounded by towels in the middle of the locker room floor. "You guys be careful. I dont want any media getting hurt." Marcus Thornton had 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter for the Nets, who won their fourth straight game and beat a Western Conference team for the fifth straight time. Monta Ellis led Dallas with 32 points, but Dirk Nowitzki finished with 10 on one of his toughest shooting nights of the season. Nowitzki hit his first shot of overtime after going 1-of-10 in regulation, but the Mavericks couldnt make any shots until it was too late in overtime. Nowitzki was 2-of-12 from the field, finishing below 42 per cent for the third time in four games as the Mavericks dropped to 2-2 on a franchise-record eight-game homestand. Both losses have been in overtime, and now Dallas faces back-to-back games against teams with much more secure playoff futures in Oklahoma City and the Los Angeles Clippers. "This is not the time to panic," said Ellis, who had four assists and four turnovers. "We still have four more home games. We are going to try to get these four." After a layup that tied the score with 9 seconds left in regulation, Johnson put the Nets up 96-93 early in overtime with a 3-pointer and answered a pair of free throws from Nowitzki with a jumper. After another miss by Nowitzki, Shaun Livingston stepped in front of a pass from Shawn Marion and went the distance for a layup and Brooklyns biggest lead at 100-95. Deron Williams and Paul Pierce had 15 points apiece for the Nets. The Mavericks, who led by 14 points after the first quarter and midway through the third, were up four with 44 seconds left in the regulation when Pierce hit two free throws after getting fouled by Marion. After Nowitzki shot an airball on a fadeway, Johnson drove for a layup and a 91-all tie. Ellis missed a long 3-pointer at the buzzer in regulation. Sam Dalembert had season highs of 15 rebounds and seven blocks, and he had two huge plays that werent rebounds when he was fouled trying to get the ball and made three of four free throws in the last 1:11. Dalembert scored 12 points. The Mavericks led by 14 after the first quarter and again midway through the third before the Nets made a charge with a 14-0 run to a 73-72 lead on two free throws from Williams. Thornton had consecutive 3-pointers to get Brooklyn within a point. "We just had too many lapses tonight," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "A lot of them were on innocent plays when we had a lead, but, you know, in a one-possession game, those things come back to you." Devin Harris, who was traded to the Nets when Kidd returned to Dallas in 2008, came off the bench much earlier than usual after Jose Calderon was knocked out of the game just 45 seconds in by an inadvertent elbow to the face from Mason Plumlee. Calderon didnt return, and Carlisle said his status is uncertain. Harris hit three 3-pointers in the first 6 minutes and led the Mavericks with nine points in the first half. He finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a season-high 40 minutes. NOTES: Nets F Andrei Kirilenko left in the first half with a mild left ankle sprain and didnt return. ... The Mavericks showed a clever "Shawn Marion training video" making light of an unconventional shooting style where he short-arms the ball with his right hand. DOHA, Qatar -- Venus Williams eased past Croatian qualifier Petra Martic 6-2, 6-2 to line up a second-round match with former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the Qatar Open on Monday. Williams was broken only once, when she led Martic 4-0. She has an up and down record so far this season, reaching the final in Auckland and losing in the first round at the Australian Open. Williams has won only one of her three matches against Kvitova, the third seed who has a first-round bye, but all three have gone the distance. Also, Chinas Peng Shuai beat 2006 champion Nadia Petrova 7-6 (5), 7-5 to even their matchups at 4-4. Petrova, who had to qualify after an injury-plagued 2013 dropped her singles ranking to 100, almost pulled off the win despite nine double faults. Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria defeated Roberta Vinci of Italy 6-3, 6-3 for the first time in four matches, while Annika Beck beat Mona Barthel in their all-German match 7-6 (5), 6-2 for the first time in three matches. Taiwanese qualifier Hsieh Su-wei won for the first time against Italys Flavia Pennetta 7-5, 6-3, and Czech qualifier Petra Cetkovska beat American Sloane Stephens 7-5, 6-1. Stephens, whod beaten Cetkovska at the last two Wimbledons, rallied to level at 5-5, but could win only one more game as she lost her serve five times. The field features seven of the top 10, led by Australian Open champ Li Na who, regardless of her result this week, will move to a career-best No. 2 ranking next week, above Victoria Azarenka, the two-time reigning Doha champ who was absent with a foot injury. ARLINGTON, Texas -- Mitch Moreland will be the guy at first base for Texas if Prince Fielders neck problem keeps him out for any length of time. His bat was a big boost a few hours after a players-only meeting for a slumping team trying to halt a slide down the AL West standings. Moreland hit a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning, Alex Rios had a two-run triple and the Rangers avoided a three-game sweep with a 6-2 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. "Id like to see him do that more often, then he can get more playing time," manager Ron Washington said after Moreland doubled in his final at-bat. "Mitch is a big part and today he stepped up huge for us." Washington expects Fielder to play in the next game Tuesday night against Seattle after he had an injection designed to ease the pain and pressure of a disk problem in his neck that he says goes back to last season. If the outlook on Fielder changes, Moreland says his approach wont. "Weve had to deal with adversity all year," said Moreland, whose second homer of the season was a line drive just over the wall in right field off R.A. Dickey (4-4) to break a 2-all tie. "You come in every day ready to play." The Rangers, who snapped a four-game losing streak and stayed seven games behind Oakland in fourth place in the AL West, had gone 23 innings without an extra-base hit when Rios drove one off the right-centre wall in the fourth. Juan Francisco and Edwin Encarnacion homered for the Blue Jays, who had won a franchise-record six straight in Texas, including a four-game sweep in their only visit last year. "Great teams find a way to sweep series," Dickey said. "Were definitely going in the right direction, but theres more there that we need to do. Today was a game we probably should have won." The Rangers were in position to add to the lead Moreland gave them in the seventh when Toronto manager John Gibbons got the Blue Jays out of the jam with a challenge after three previous visits with umpires ended without a video review. Michael Choice lined out to Francisco, who tagged third base with his glove as Robinson Chirinos was diving back to the bag. Dale Scott called Chirinos safe, but a review lasting nearly 3 minutes overturned it and gave Toronto an inning-ending double play. Gibbons move ended up not mattering much when Shin-Soo Choo and Adrian Beltre had run-scoring hits in the eighth. Moreland hit his second homer of the season after Rios just beat Franciscos throw for an error on one of the plays Gibbons considered challenging. Toronto had a season-high four errors. Texas rookie right-hander Nick Martinez left with a 2-1 lead after five innings but lost the chance for his first big league win on Encarnacions ninth homer, a shot to left field off Aaron Poreda in the sixth. Poreda (2-0) ended up getting the win after a scoreless seventh, and closer Joakim Soria pitched a shaky but scoreless ninth in a non-save situation on his 30th birthday. Franciscos home run into the upper deck in right field was among four hits allowed by Martinez in a solid outing that should give him a chance to stay in the rotation with four Texas starters on the disabled list. He had never pitched above Double-A before this year. "Each time he takes the ball its an experience for him," Washington said. "He knew where we were today and he did a good job just getting us through as many pitches as he could handle." Dickey allowed three hits and four runs in falling to 12-12 against the team that drafted him and gave him his first shot in the majors 13 years ago. His job in jeopardy after a trade earlier in the day, Cunningham bunted home the go-ahead run with a squeeze play, and the Indians beat Detroit 3-2 Tuesday night and moved within three games of the AL Central-leading Tigers. "I cant worry about anything there except executing the play," said Cunningham, whose role as utility outfielder may come to an end Wednesday as the Indians need to drop a player to make room for veteran utilityman Brent Lillibridge. Cleveland acquired Lillibridge from Boston before the game, which turned out to be an exciting victory for the third-place Indians. "Its a huge win," said Travis Hafner, who tripled with one out in the seventh inning off Doug Fister (4-7) and the score tied at two. Lou Marson pinch ran for Hafner and took off for home as Cunningham, a defensive replacement hitting .175, dropped a bunt in front of the plate. Fister quickly got the ball and tried to shovel it to catcher Alex Avila. It rolled away, Marson scored, and Cunningham took second on the error. Miguel Cabreras two-run homer off reliever Joe Smith (6-2) tied it at 2 in the top half. "It was like my big truck was sitting on top of me and somebody lifted it off," Smith said of earning the win after blowing the shutout. "This was a total team win. The guys bounced right back after I messed up." Chris Perez pitched the ninth for his 28th save in 30 chances. Cleveland is 6-1 against the Tigers. Perez has saved each win. Five have been by two runs or fewer. Vinnie Pestano pitched a scoreless eighth for Cleveland, which is 29-3 when the right-hander and Perez have been in the same game. The Indians are 20-45 in all other games. Indians manager Manny Acta said confidence in the two relievers led to choosing to squeeze. "If we take the lead, our chances are very good of winning with Pestano and Perez," Acta said. "Aaron executed very well, didnt give it away. Then Pestano and Perez took care of business." Cunningham was elated to help. "Ill do anything I can for this team because theyve treated me great all year," he said. "If I had gotten a few more hits, they would have given me more playing time. Its great to get this big win and well just have to see what happens from here." Tigers manager Jim Leyland praised Actas decision to squeeze. "It was a great call by Manny," Leyland said. "Thhat was the run that beat us.ddddddddddddWe were certainly aware of it. Thats why I had Alex looking over in case I wanted to pitch out, but I didnt do it early enough." Fister blamed himself for the poor throw. "Its basically do or die and I died," he said. "Ive got to get the throw in a better spot. I didnt execute it." Johnny Damon had an RBI single in the second inning and Carlos Santana singled home a run in the fourth for Cleveland. Smith thought he had thrown a third strike past Quentin Berry to end the top of the seventh with that 2-0 lead. TV replays showed his full-count pitch was over the heart of the plate, but umpire Marvin Hudson judged it to be a tad high. Cabrera then drove a 2-0 pitch over the wall in centre for his 24th homer. Great hustle by Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder helped douse the Indians rally in the fourth. With runners on first and second and none out, Santana singled in Jason Kipnis with a grounder between first and second. Right fielder Brennan Boesch scooped up the ball, but Fielder cut off his throw home and fired to third baseman Cabrera, getting Michael Brantley in a rundown. Fielder then sprinted all the way across the diamond to back up the play, taking a return throw from shortstop Jhonny Peralta on the run and tagging out Brantley, who was sliding in head first. Hafner struck out and Damon grounded out to end the inning. Jimenez allowed seven singles over six scoreless innings. "Ubaldo pitched a heck of a six innings," Acta said. "And he had to pitch. London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Arsenal legend Thierry Henry formally announced his retirement Tuesday, bringing an end to an illustrious career that spanned more than 20 years. He will now move to London to join Sky Sports as a television pundit. The Frenchman leaves the game as one of the most prolific strikers of his generation, recording more than 350 goals across all competitions. It has been an incredible journey and I would like to thank all the fans, teammates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and of course the French national team that have made my time in the game so special, the 37-year-old wrote on his official Facebook page. Henry began his professional career in 1994 with French club AS Monaco, where he won the 1996-97 Ligue 1 title and earned Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year honors. He moved to Arsenal in 1999 after a brief stint with Juventus and experienced a tremendous amount of success with the Gunners. Henry led Arsenal to two Premier League titles (2002, 2004) and three FA Cup trophies (2002, 2003, 2005) while leading the club to a fabled unbeaten Premier League season in 2003-04. Henry made the switch to Barcelona in 2007 and helped the Catalans earn consecutive La Liga titles in 2009 and 2010 as well as a UEFA Champions League title in 2009. After three years at Camp Nou, Henry moved to MLS to join Red Bull New York where he scored 51 goals and added 42 assists in 122 regular-season appearances. He also guided New York to its first piece of major silverware, helping the club win the 2013 Supporters Shield. Henry earned 123 caps for the French national team and was a member of the nations World Cup triumph on home soil in 1998. He also featured for France in the three subsequent World Cup tournaments, suffering premature exits in 2002 and 2010 while leading the nation to a second-place finish in 2006. Ken Griffey Jersey . Before tonights Toronto Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre, when the American League East leaders host last years National League pennant winners, the St. Louis Cardinals, the team will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of the SkyDome. Jays legends Jimmy Key and Ernie Whitt, members of playoff and World Series-winning teams of the past, will be on hand for the festivities to look back at what was the beginning of the Jays halcyon years. The return of these former stars comes at an apt time. For fans of the Blue Jays, its starting to feel a lot like those glory days again. Heading into Fridays game, the Jays sit at 37-24 with a five-and-a-half-game lead on the second-place Baltimore Orioles. The last team the Blue Jays held such a lead atop the division was in 1985, the year of their first-ever AL East triumph. Its easy to see why theres excitement surrounding this Jays team, but before everybody goes and books their flights to San Francisco for the World Series in October, lets step back and take a good look at these Toronto Blue Jays. Is it time to stop saying "Well, its early" and officially deem them contenders? Is the 2014 version of the Jays just the 2013 one that was expected all along, but a year late on arrival? Or will reality catch up with a team that is currently playing above its station? Friday night marks Game 62, and an even 100 games remain in the regular season. While its not exactly the halfway mark, its as good a time as any to reflect on the interesting dichotomy of the Jays season, thus far. Obviously, there have been plenty of key performances from the top of the roster on down. Mark Buehrle leads the league in wins with 10 and has a paltry 2.10 ERA. Edwin Encarnacion launched 16 jacks in May and made every at-bat a must-see event. Jose Bautista is in the midst of an MVP-calibre season. Melky Cabrera has bounced back from offseason surgery and looks headed to another All-Star Game. Jose Reyes once again looks like the catalyst he was for the New York Mets. Picked up from the Milwaukee Brewers scrap heap, Juan Francisco is one of the five Jays with double-digit home run totals. There is a lot to like right now. But before the Jays were sweeping the likes of the Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics and tearing the cover off the baseball with reckless abandon and going 17-4 over its last 21 games, this team was once a very average 20-20. Its bullpen is still second-last in the bigs with a 4.62 ERA, having surrendered a league-worst 97 earned runs. Now second in the AL with 19 home runs, Encarnacion couldnt buy a hit in April and had just two homers. Reyes, Adam Lind and Casey Janssen missed significant time. Brandon Morrow and Colby Rasmus are down again. There were red flags all over this team not that long ago, but those have been seemingly swept aside in a tidal wave of power-hitting and timely pitching. Has this changed your expectations for the rest of the year? With April and early May indicating that the team was headed for another year of mediocrity, the fact that the Jays are division-leaders with the third-best record in baseball in June is quite frankly shocking. But wasnt this the Toronto Blue Jays team that was promised last season after a winter of major trades and free agent acquisitions? Maybe this run that the Jays are on isnt the aberration. Perhaps, last season and the beginning of this year was the outlier. Regardless of why its happening and how long it will last, the Blue Jays are currently playing meaningful baseball and its a welcome change for fans starving for a winner. So with 100 games left in 2014, just who are these Toronto Blue Jays and what happens from here on out? As always, its Your Call! It was supposed to be a dream come true. A marriage made in soccer heaven. The hometown star returning back to his roots to help guide his new team to a level of success he had reached many times. Sure, there were some good moments. The all-star appearances, the first goal at BMO Field when he headed the ball into the net against Dallas, but for Dwayne De Rosario it wasnt enough. This was not how he had imagined it going. On the field, De Rosario was able to forget the issues, play a game he loved in front of fans he adored. Sometimes the result would even go the teams way, but often it wouldnt and after the match, as he made the walk from the dressing room to his car, his mind would be cloudy and full of distractions about how the club was run. "Id definitely sit in my car and shake my head," he admitted in a sitdown with TSN.ca. "I know it was my hometown but I never wanted them to take that for granted and use that as leverage against me. I wasnt willing to stand for anything, its who I am, I am very passionate and hungry for success." As he started his third season with Toronto FC in 2011, it became very clear the two were heading in different directions. De Rosario had hoped to be loaned to Celtic during the offseason but didnt get his wish and three months later he was packing his bags from Toronto for, what appeared, good. It wasnt an April Fools joke, but on April 1, 2011, De Rosario was dealt to New York Red Bulls for what can now be labeled nothing more than a bag of balls. On a flight later that day, De Rosario thought he would never play for Toronto FC ever again but admitted he hoped to one day return when the direction of the club was different. "I never closed the door and turned my back on that option. How it was presented to me this time was a situation I couldnt refuse, I always wanted to create special moments and have special memories with my hometown, Toronto FC, and I am looking to live those moments I envisioned and hopefully we can create those this season." It is clear the Canadian international spent many hours dreaming of playing for his hometown club before it happened and it is also clear that a lot of those dreams didnt come true the first time around. "I demand success, first and foremost from myself, but from my teammates and from the organization and to have a situation where we now have it demanded from the top is absolutely ideal. Its the right way and I am happy to be a part of that." When Toronto FC kick off the new season in Seattle on Saturday afternoon, much of the attention will, rightfully so, be placed on star signings Jermain Defoe, Michael Bradley and Julio Cesar. The club has completely reinvented itself this winter and the return of De Rosario is almost an after-thought, a small scene in a blockbuster movie. With De Rosario now 35 that is, probably, the right thing for a team who want to contend for the MLS Cup this season, but the 2011 league MVP believes he can still play a major part on and off the pitch. He said: "I am really looking forward to this year. Jermain Defoe is a world class player, a winner, throughout the season it will be great to pick his brain and see how he runs and moves and create that relationship. Gilberto has a very bright future and so far I have enjoyed playing together with him. Anytime you have an opportunity to play alongside players of that calibre it is always fun, the most important thing is developing the understanding. So far its come along and we are excited to get it started." De Rosario has been in MLS long enough to know that tough times will still come Torontos way this season, even if they are successful. He admits expectations are high but thinks the team is ready to drag themselves through the rough patches because of the personnel general manager Tim Bezbatchenko has assembled. "Thankfully when we look at every position we have strong leaders. Julio Cesar to Steven Caldwell in central defence, Michael Bradley in the midfield and myself, Defoe up top, all strong personalities with experience, its important. All of these guys know its a long season, they understand we havent done anything yet, on paper it looks good but we have to continue to show that on a day-to-day basis and we have to work hard to accomplish something." De Rosarios second stint in Toronto gives the club a player whose best days are clearly behind him but he still thinks his versatility can help head coach Ryan Nelsen in many areas throughout 2014. "I dont have a specific favourite position. I like creating and scoring goals, up top, on the left, attacking mid, all these provide those opportunities for me but it depends on the team and its shape. Sometimes I am on the left and I dont really like it because I dont feel I get as much ball as I would like, sometimes I am in the midfield and you just defend a lot so that can be frustrating but sometimes, even, up top you can not get the balls, so it depends on the situation and the team." Throughout his career, he admits he is constantly learning and developing more and more on the tactical side of the game: "Spatial awareness is a big part of my game, knowing when to leave it and attack it and I have been working with a lot of the forwards here about that as well. You want to continuously move but sometimes you need to stop and let the space develop and attack it at the right moments." De Rosario will be hoping to find some of the space in behind Brad Evans and Osvaldo Alonso against the Sounders on Saturday. (You can read my piece on Toronto FCs strategy against Seattle here) March 15 has been circled on the calendar for many Toronto FC fans because it is their first game but De Rosario cannot wait for the following week when he will get to pull on the red number 14 shirt in front of the home fans. "Those fans are my family, the relationship with them means everything to me. Every time I step out for training or in a game with that badge it is for them. I do not just represent myself, I represent my direct family and the fans and I take a lot of pride in that. One day I want the youngsters to look at me and say I want to be like him, and because of that, I want to set as good an example as possible." On paper, the words look clichГ© but you dont have to be around De Rosario for long to know just how much he truly means it and how much he loves his city and his club. Toronto FC have lacked a lot of things in their short history. Above all else they have lacked wins, but in recent years there has been a distinct lack of people caring about this club. Whether the signing of De Rosario the player turns out to be a success only time will tell, but to have a winner talk so passionately about this club is already a positive step before a ball has even been kicked. LOS ANGELES -- In one night, the Los Angeles Kings made the leap from eighth to third in the Western Conference standings by taking over the Pacific Division lead. Jonathan Quick made it happen with one of his most memorable outings, tying the team record for shutouts in a season in the process. Quick held his own in a brilliant goaltending duel Thursday night with Brian Elliott, making 35 saves for his eighth shutout, and Jeff Carter scored the deciding goal in the fourth round of a shootout to give the Kings a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues. Elliott made 37 saves for his eighth shutout of the season and 16th overall. The Kings are 3-4-1 in 1-0 decisions this season, including a loss to the Blues on Feb. 3 in St. Louis. The Blues are 4-1 in games decided by a 1-0 score, the other games decided in regulation. "It was a lot of fun. That was a great game," said Quick, who matched Rogie Vachons shutout total from 1976-77 and pushed his career total to 23. "I tip the cap to Elliot. He played unreal down at the other end and made some big saves to keep them in it. For no goals scored, I think it was a pretty exciting game." Los Angeles finished the season series 3-1 against the Blues, who last Saturday reached 100 points for the fifth time in club history and became the first team to clinch a playoff berth. It doesnt get any easier for the Kings, whose next two opponents will be last seasons Stanley Cup finalists -- Boston and Vancouver. The game against the Canucks kicks off a four-game trip. "This means nothing if we dont win on Saturday," Quick said. "We know what its like out there, and we know how tight it is." The Kings posted their season-high sixth straight win after outshooting St. Louis 35-32 in regulation. They had 32 shots in the second and third periods after getting outshot 13-3 in the first by a team that came in allowing an NHL-low 26.2 shots on net per game. St. Louis and Los Angeles came in 1-2 in the NHL in goals-against average, the Blues having allowed 1.85 goals per game and the Kings 2.06. Elliott came in with a league-best 1.62 goals-against average, and Quick was fourth with a 2.00 GAA. "Both teams are No. 1 and No. 2 in the league in defence, and both goalies made a lot of big saves -- ours in the first and theirs in the second," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "Were probably fortunate to get an extra point tonight. We have to continue to work at forging that identity, that whole compete, commitment thing." Sutters teams have earned 1,001 standings points, including 38 extra points ffrom overtime and shootouts losses.ddddddddddddThe Kings are 22-11-8 since he took over behind the bench. One night after blowing three one-goal leads in a 4-3 loss at Anaheim with Halak in net, the Blues hunkered down defensively in front of Elliott by blocking 14 shots. They lead the NHL with 101 points, two more than the idle New York Rangers. St. Louis defenceman Carlo Colaiacovo left the game for good at 13:43 of the second period because of a lower back injury, which occurred when he got tangled up with Kings captain Dustin Brown deep in the Blues zone and drew an interference penalty before his backward momentum sent him crashing into the right post. Chris Porter served the penalty for Colaiacovo, but the Kings power play lasted less than a minute before Slava Voynov was sent off for interference. The Blues outshot the Kings 12-1 through the first 17 minutes and came within inches of taking the lead. Quick went behind the net to play the puck and gave it to defenceman Matt Greene, who lost possession to Patrik Berglund on the forecheck. His attempted centring pass squirted off Quicks skate as he scrambled back to the crease, then rolled parallel to the goal line before Quick cleared it away with a backhanded swipe less than 2 minutes before intermission. "Our best player was our goaltender, and thats what we needed in the first," Kings centre Jarret Stoll said. "Sometimes you need that, but you dont want that to happen very often. Hes been making big saves all year, and we needed him tonight. We didnt have our full 60-minute effort, but we found a way to win and get two points." Notes: T.J. Oshie is the only player on the Blues roster who has participated in all 12 of their shootouts. He has scored five times -- including Thursday, and is 16 for 31 in the tiebreaker during his career. ... Quick beat St. Louis 5-0 Oct. 18 in their home opener. Jaroslav Halak beat the Kings 1-0 on Feb. 3, with Jamie Langenbrunner scoring the only goal. ... The Blues were 0 for 14 on the power play against the Kings in the season series, one of them in the final 1:53 of overtime after the Kings Justin Williams was sent off for tripping Berglund. ... The Blues are 40-13-9 since coach Ken Hitchcock inherited a 6-7-0 record from Davis Payne on Nov. 6. Hitchcock has a chance to join Bruce Boudreau (Washington 2007-08) and Bill Barber (Philadelphia 2000-01) as the only coaches to win the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year after taking over a team once the season was underway.
