CHICAGO -- When the Los Angeles Clippers lost All-Star Chris Paul to a separated shoulder, they turned to Blake Griffin for leadership. And he has responded by stepping up his play. Griffin had 26 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 112-95 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. The Clippers improved to 7-3 since Paul, who was averaging 19.6 points and 11.2 assists, was injured. "Blake doesnt run from a challenge," Clippers guard Jamal Crawford said. "Hes one of the hardest workers Ive seen." The Clippers enjoyed a strong outside game, opening up Griffin on the inside, and he finished with his 27th double-double. "(I want to be) a leader for us, knocking down shots and being able to mix up my game, going inside when I felt the need to and going outside when I needed to," Griffin said. Crawford added 19 points for the Clippers, who had six players score in double figures and shot 54 per cent from the field -- including 13 for 21 on 3-pointers. DeAndre Jordan added 10 points and 12 rebounds. "They were open, the right guy was taking them, all of our 3-point shooters," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. "They made them, and that opened it up for Blake." Carlos Boozer scored 22 points for the Bulls, who snapped a three-game winning streak. "I dont think any aspect of our defence was any good," Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. The Clippers have won four straight against the Bulls, and improved to 3-2 on their seven-game trip. Chicago cut the lead to eight in the third quarter but Darren Collison answered with two quick baskets and the Clippers led 92-80 heading to the fourth. Los Angeles got off to a strong start. The Clippers shot 10 for 14 on 3s and finished 64.1 per cent overall from the field in the first half to take a 68-55 lead at halftime. Jordans dunk gave the Clippers a 60-39 lead, their largest margin, with 3:52 left before halftime. Los Angeles was 7 for 8 from beyond the arc in the first quarter to set a franchise record for 3s in a quarter. The Clippers led 41-26 after shooting 73.7 per cent in the period. "Thats kind of what we talked about, especially defensively," Griffin said about the quick start. "But we still didnt do a good job in the first quarter. We were just so hot early. We got that lead and kept it. Especially on the road, you never want to come out sluggish." In the teams previous meeting, the Clippers routed the Bulls 121-82 on Nov. 24 for their worst loss of the season in the first game after Derrick Rose suffered a season-ending knee injury. The Clippers were averaging 105.4 points, fifth in the league. The Bulls were one of the NBAs top defensive teams, holding opponents to 92.5 points per game before Friday. "Giving up 3s, we strive for five or less," Bulls forward Taj Gibson said. "That was just crazy. We kept fighting. But once they give a team like that confidence, its hard to shut them off." J.J. Redick scored 18 points and shot 4 for 7 from 3-point range. Collison, playing despite a sprained toe, had 17 points. Boozer, back from a one-game absence due to a sore left calf, scored 16 points in the first quarter. Gibson added 18 points, Mike Dunleavy had 17 and Joakim Noah 12 as the Bulls shot 43 per cent from the field and 6 for 19 from 3-point range. The Bulls were without Kirk Hinrich, who missed his second consecutive game with a strained right hamstring. "I think we were passive," Bulls guard Jimmy Butler said. "I dont like the word soft, but I think we were a little bit of that too. They got the shots they wanted to get. We didnt make it too tough for them at all." NOTES: Rivers said the Bulls shouldnt let Thibodeau get away. Thibodeau was on Rivers coaching staff from 2007-10 with the Boston Celtics. "I think it would be nuts not to have him here," Rivers said. "Hes the best coach, one of the best coaches, in the league, so if you have that, thats an asset. And I dont think any right-minded organization would allow that asset to leave. Because with all this adversity theyve had with injuries, if you allow that one to leave, things will fall apart -- and that would be pretty much a guarantee." Thibodeau declined to address rumours about his future. ... Hinrich will possibly miss the Bulls trip to Charlotte on Saturday as he continues to receive treatment, Thibodeau said. ... Thibodeau said it would be a great experience for Rose to play for Team USA if he is healthy. Rose was one of 28 players named to the 2014-16 national team pool. The FIBA Basketball World Cup will be Aug. 30-Sept. 14 in Spain. Rose is out for the NBA season after undergoing knee surgery on Nov. 25. ... Thibodeau picked up a technical foul with the Bulls trailing 86-74 with 2:10 left in the third quarter. Yeezy Boost 350 Black Price . BOSTON -- Darnell McDonald hasnt had much luck with his health or his hitting this season. The Red Sox left-fielder was feeling fine Tuesday night when he ended the game by throwing out Edwin Encarnacion at the plate on a disputed call as Boston held on for a 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Jason Varitek caught the ball then hurried off the field after umpire Brian Knights out call. "The play was Jason blocking the plate there and getting the tag down," McDonald said. "He did a great job." Toronto manager John Farrell didnt think so. "We should still be playing," Farrell said after seeing the replay. "That play is right in front of Brian Knight. It was clear that Edwin did a good job sliding around the plant leg of Tek. His swipe tag missed him by no less than a foot." For McDonald, it was a rare highlight in a rough season. He was on the disabled list from May 26 to June 14 with a strained left quadriceps and is just 8-for-64 in 35 games. Hes filled in recently in left field while Carl Crawford spends time on the disabled list with a strained hamstring. "Its been very tough," McDonald said. "I want to do things to help the team. Obviously, I havent been effective at the plate. Its a long season. ... When youre not hitting, defence has to be on point." Brett Cecil (1-4) went all the way for Toronto, giving up two runs in the second on an RBI double by Varitek and a run-scoring single by J.D. Drew and one in the third on Dustin Pedroias eighth homer of the year. Toronto had just two hits through eight innings before Corey Patterson led off the ninth with a single off Jonathan Papelbon and Jose Bautista followed with his major league-leading 28th homer. A single by Encarnacion and a walk to J.P. Arencibia put runners at first and second with two outs. John McDonald then looped a single that Darnell McDonald charged and, on the run, fired the ball on the fly to Varitek, who blocked the plate with his left leg. Knight looked closely, then raised his right hand for the out sign. "Tek deserves a save," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "Hes as good at that (as) anybody in the game. Thats a good baseball play. He stuck that stump in there and didnt let him get to the plate. Mac made a great throw. It certainly wasnt the way we drew it up, but its a heck of a way to end the game." Did John McDonald see the replay? "Does it make a difference?" he said. "Were sitting in here right now getting ready for Wednesdays series finale." Papelbon got his 18th save in 19 chances while Matt Albers (3-3) picked up the win. Boston starter Jon Lester allowed no hits in four innings before leaving with a strained muscle on the left side of his back. Francona said it had been bothering Lester the entire inning and further examination would be done on Wednesday. Albers worked two scoreless innings and gave up Torontos first hit, a two-out single by Bautista in the sixth. Franklin Morales and Daniel Bard each pitched a scoreless inning before Papelbon got into -- and out of -- a jam. "To not give up today, get a few runs, get a few more guys on base against an excellent closer says a lot about our club," John McDonald said. The Red Sox ended a three-game home losing streak and won for the fifth time in its last six games overall. They went up 2-0 in the second when David Ortiz led off with a double, took third on a groundout and scored on Variteks double. Drew then hit a hard shot into the hole between first and second that went off the foot of second baseman Mike McCoy for a single. Cecil set down the first two batters in the third. Then Pedroia, batting fourth while Kevin Youkilis sat out with a bruised back muscle, drove a 1-2 pitch over the left-field wall for his eighth homer. The five-foot-eight Pedroia hit fourth for only the second time this season and homered in each game. He first did it last Thursday when he went 1-for-5 in a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. In his six career games batting cleanup, he is 13 for 26 with four homers. "I see the Red Sox have been signing a whole bunch of little guys because they think they might find another Pedroia," Ortiz joked. "I doubt it. You dont see that every day, man. Hes special." Lester started the game by striking out Rajai Davis, then got Patterson on a groundout before striking out Bautista. He added two strikeouts in the second against Encarnacion and Travis Snider. Lester then walked Arencibia to start the third but set down the next three batters. He pitched a perfect fourth, ending the inning -- and his night -- by throwing a called third strike by Adam Lind. NOTES: Bard has pitched 16 1-3 consecutive scoreless innings. ... Bautista has reached base in 74 of his 79 games. ... Boston sent OF Mike Cameron and cash to the Florida Marlins for a player to be named or cash. ... Torontos season-high streak of homers reached 13 straight games. ... Crawford could return before the all-star break that begins Monday but probably wouldnt play just Sunday, according Francona. ... Boston RHP Clay Buchholz planned to fly Wednesday to North Carolina for a second opinion on a lower back strain that put him on the disabled list. Adidas Tech Super Sale . -- The NFL suspended Chiefs backup offensive lineman Rokevious Watkins for four games Thursday for violating its substance-abuse policy. Adidas Originals Zx Flux .A. Happ and catcher Erik Kratz had a plan. http://www.sneakersnloutlet.nl/adidas-zx-700.html . LOUIS - Matt Adams hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the St. Nike Heren Air Max 2013 schoenen oranje/zwart . Vargas (8-3) allowed four singles and two walks while striking out five, allowing only two runners from a diluted Twins lineup to reach second base. Mike Moustakas and Jarrod Dyson hit RBI singles in the second inning against Kevin Correia (4-10), and that was all Vargas needed. Nike Roshe Run Flyknit Dames .S. captain Tom Watson went with experience and a gut feeling Tuesday night when he filled out his Ryder Cup team with Keegan Bradley, Hunter Mahan and Webb Simpson.INDIANAPOLIS -- This time, Jordan Morgan got the ball to bounce the right way -- and Michigan celebrated. A little more than one year after missing a last-second tip-in that would have given the Wolverines a share of the Big Ten regular-season title, the 6-foot-8 forward scored on a layup with 7.9 seconds left to give No. 8 Michigan a 64-63 victory over Illinois in Fridays Big Ten tournament quarterfinals and a shot at another league championship. "Im telling you -- I probably exaggerate -- 10,000 times, at least 2,000 times in five years Jordan Morgan has run that same drill," coach John Beilein said. "Theres a bag to hit him, you still got to catch it in a crowd and keep it up and dunk it if he can. He said he wanted to add a little drama to the game, so he decided to put it up on the rim. Illinois had a chance to win it when Tracy Abrams drove in for a layup, expecting contact, but the ball hit the front of the rim and bounced off. No foul was called. Its about time something went right for the Wolverines (24-7) in this tournament. Since going 3-0 to win the first title in 1998, Michigan has not won more than one game in the annual tourney. The Wolverines later vacated that tourney title because of NCAA infractions, and Michigan has endured everything from an embarrassing 21-turnover game in a 2006 first-round loss to Evan Turners buzzer-beating 40-foot heave, which gave rival Ohio State a 69-68 quarterfinal win in 2010. Things are supposed to be different this year. After ending a 28-year drought between outright regular-season titles with a win at Illinois last week, Michigan came into this weekend with the No. 1 tourney seed for the first time in school history and with a full head of steam -- six straight wins. But it almost happened again. Michigan blew a 13-point second-half lead, scored just six points in the final 7 1/2 minutes and then wound up getting bailed out by Morgan when Big Ten player of the year changed the play coach John Beilein called in the huddle. "I was looking to be aggressive and raised up to shoot and man, the guy guarding me was still chasing me and the big was chasing me too and J-Mo rolled down the lane and he was wide open," Stauskas said. "I hit him with the ball and he laid it in." The Wolverines usual trio led tthe way.dddddddddddd Stauskas had 19 points despite going 4 of 12 from the field and 2 of 10 on 3-pointers against Illinois zone defence, Glenn Robinson III had 15 points and seven rebounds and Caris LeVert finished with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. Yet it was Morgan, who wound up the star. He made the only two shots he took -- none bigger than the layup he never expected that sent Michigan into Saturdays semifinals against either fourth-seeded Nebraska or fifth-seeded Ohio State, who played in the second quarterfinal of the day. Michigan swept Nebraska this season and won at Ohio State in this seasons only meeting with the Buckeyes. Morgan, who missed the shot that gave Indiana last years outright regular season title, made this one. "As far as catching it, I just put it on the rim and got a nice roll," he said matter-of-factly. Ninth-seeded Illinois (19-14) was on the cusp of pulling off a major upset after finally retaking a 59-58 lead on Rices driving layup with 4:53 left. The Illini allowed just one 3-pointer, one free throw but couldnt stop Morgans layup the rest of the way. Abrams and Rayvonte Rice each finished with 11 points. Kendrick Nunn had 10 points as the Illini lost for only the second time in seven games. "Its obviously an uncontested shot that I probably could make," Abrams said. "We obviously wanted to get that one in and we wanted to win, but there was a lot of other plays that we can account back to that we could have did different or could have got an extra rebound." Illinois zone defence changed game. Following a media timeout with 11:26 left, Stauskas made two free throws to give the Wolverines a 55-44 lead. The Illini answered with 10 straight points and finally took the lead on Rices driving layup with 4:53 left. Michigan tied the score at 61 with 3:10 to go, but all the Wolverines could muster the rest of the way was one free throw from Stauskas until the surprised Morgan got the right roll. "Well, were thrilled to get that win because as you can see, as Illinois has shown in their last six games, how well the program has played after a tough January," Beilein said. "They proved how good they were, and, fortunately, we got some good bounces around the basket to finish the game." SAO PAULO - Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar said Tuesday he arrives for the World Cup at home a lot more prepared than he was four years ago, when his mistake played a part in the teams elimination in South Africa. Cesar said the difficulties he went through after the 2010 World Cup helped him become "a better professional" and made him "more focused" on his career. He admitted that he took things for granted before the World Cup in South Africa, when he arrived considered the worlds top goalkeeper. The 34-year-old Cesar said he joined Toronto FC because it was the only team that wanted him, but said his preparations were not affected by playing in a less-traditional league. He called his time with Toronto "excellent" and said he is "100 per cent" ready. "I arrive a lot more prepared than I was four years ago," Cesar said at Brazils training centre in Teresopolis, outside Rio de Janeiro. "During bad times you have to try to find some positive things, and I did. It wasnt only the elimination against the Netherlands, I also had to deal with problems at Inter Milan and then at Queens Park Rangers. I needed to find a lot of strength to come back." Cesar failed to clear a cross during Brazils quarterfinal against the Netherlands in 2010. That led to the equalizer for the Dutch, which eventually went on to beat the South Americans 2-1. Cesar said he thought about quitting football at the time, and things only got worse after he faced problems both at Inter Milan and then at Queens Park Rangers, where he was sidelined and played sparingly. "I became a better professional after the 2010 World Cup," he said. "When things are going your way, you end up relaxing a little bit more. I was very confident in 2010 because of everything that had happened until then, and I think that too much confidence can hurt. Now I can say that from personal experience." Although Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari named Cesar the World Cup starter long time ago, many still consider the goalkeeper the weakest link in Brazils squad, especially because of his lack of play in recent months. "I dont think there is pressure," he said. "I know many people are questioning me and why I was selected, but the coaches have the confidence in my game and I know that I can add a lot to this group." Cesar conceded nine goals in seven matches with Toronto in the run-up to the World Cup, but said he was able to take advantage of the time he spent in Major League Soccer. "My preparations were excellent, I feel Im 100 per cent ready for the World Cup," Cesar said. "Toronto was the only team that opened its doors for me. I talked to several clubs, including in Brazil, and the negotiations were not successful, many times because of the salaries here. But I knew I had to be playing so I could arrive well psychologically, it would have been hard if I hadnt been playing anywhere." ___ Follow Tales Azzoni at http://twitter.com/tazzoni #18 Spain Jordi Alba Youth Jersey - Authentic Red Home Short Shirt 2016 UEFA European Football Championship Soccer Adidas Sergio Rico Jersey . SEATTLE -- Austin Jackson is starting the settle in with the Seattle Mariners. Acquired in a trade with the Detroit Tigers before the deadline, Jackson matched a career-high with four RBIs to lead the Mariners to a 4-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Jackson joined the Mariners in Baltimore on Aug. 1 and has started all 10 games since the trade. Now back in Seattle, Jackson is beginning to feel comfortable in his home clubhouse. "Once we arrived here and got that first game here under our belts. We kind of settled in a little bit," Jackson said of himself and fellow deadline acquisition Chris Denorfia. "Just seeing that were close (to a playoff spot), I think that gives us a lot of extra motivation to go out there and get those wins. I dont think we could have gotten traded to a better team." Logan Morrison began a two-out rally for the Mariners in the second inning off Chicagos John Danks (9- with a hard line drive single off the wall in right field. Infield singles by Chris Taylor and Jesus Sucre loaded the bases for Jackson. A career .400 hitter against Danks, Jackson doubled down the left field line to give the Mariners a 3-0 lead. He finished 3 for 4. "I cant escape him," Danks said. "Ive thrown everything I know how to. I thought about taking my glove off and firing one in there right-handed just to give him another look. ... Hes hit some good pitches off of me and definitely made me answer to some mistakes I made." Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez was pulled mid-batter in the fifth inning as Dominic Leone entered to face Gordon Beckham with a 2-1 count. Leone got Beckham to ground into a double play to end the inning. Leone (5-2) picked up the victory and Fernando Rodney earned his 33rd save. Taylor drew a leadoff walk in the seventh inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sucre. Jackson singled to left as Taylor beat the throw home from Alejandro De Aza to give Seattle a 4-0 lead. "He swung the bat extremely well. Thats the type of hitter he can be," manager Lloyd McClendon said. Tyler Flowers homered off Tom Wilhelmsen to lead off the seventh for Chicago. Rodney allowed the first two runners to reach in the ninth. After two strikeouts, Conor Gillaspie singled to centre to drive in Alexei Ramirez. Rodney then hit Flowers to load the bases before striking out Jordan Danks to seal the victory. BECKHAM WEB GEM Beckham made a diving stop of a grounder from Dustin Ackley to end the second inning. The second baseman laid out to his left and likely saved a run as Jackson was set to score from second if the ball had made its way into right field. LINDSTROM READY White Sox closer Matt Lindstrom is set to return after nearly three full months on the disabled list. Lindstrom will be recalled from Triple-A Charlotte for Tuesdays game against San Francisco. Lindstrom has been on the 15-day DL since May 20 with a dislocated tendon in his right ankle. Chicago optioned reliever Eric Surkamp to Triple-A after the game to clear space for Lindstrom. RAMIREZ OPTIONED The Mariners optioned Erasmo Ramirez back to Triple-A Tacoma following his start against the White Sox. The team will make a corresponding move on Monday to add a position player to the roster. UP NEXT Chicago: Left-hander Chris Sale (10-2, 2.14 ERA) is set to open the White Sox two-game series with San Francisco on Tuesday. Sale took the loss for only the second time this season in his last outing against Texas on August 6. Seattle: Mariners ace Felix Hernandez (12-3, 1.97 ERA) opens a key series in the race for the second wild card against Toronto. Hernandez is riding a major league-record 15 straight starts of at least seven innings pitched with two runs or less allowed. Jeremain Lens Jersey .com) - Luke Donald saw a 4-shot lead quickly evaporate on Saturday, but a birdie at the last helped him regain the lead after three rounds at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Gianluca Gaudino Jersey . Ricciardos exclusion from the results tarnished what had been a day of celebration for local fans, who were jubilant that the Red Bull driver had apparently become the first Australian to finish on the podium at his home race. However just before midnight, stewards ruled that Ricciardos car had "exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow" and that the team refused an instruction from the races technical delegate Charlie Whiting to change the fuel-flow sensor before the race and a further request during the race to reduce the fuel flow. Julian Green Jersey . Aspen quickly followed suit, and ticket prices at resorts across the country have consistently increased in the years since.VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Chad Johnson made a sharp cut to free himself from a defender, and then hauled in a pass at the 53-yard line. Yes, the 53. Football is going to be a little different now for the former NFL star. The receiver who once changed his last name to Ochocinco might be hearing a lot of "O Canada" this summer, and he insists hes humbled for that opportunity. Johnson was on the field with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL on Tuesday for the start of their three-day minicamp, and theres a very realistic chance that he will be with them when their season starts for real in June. "Its just football. Its football," Johnson said. "Its not about Montreal. Its about the opportunity to be able to play football again, something I love." Its something he lost two years ago. Johnson last appeared in an NFL game during the 2011 season with New England. He was in training camp with the Miami Dolphins -- his hometown team -- the following summer, but his contract was terminated one day after he was charged with misdemeanour domestic battery. A plea deal was eventually worked out, but after a probation violation Johnson wound up going to jail for a few days anyway after a judge objected to the way he slapped his attorney on the backside in celebration. He hasnt played since. "A horrible mistake," Johnson said. "A dream of mine since I was 4 years old was taken from me, rightfully so, by my wrongdoings and I just want to get back to doing something that I love to do, regardless of where it is. Montreal, flag football, back in the street the way I grew up . I just want to play football." The Alouettes have a history of not judging players by their checkered pasts, as evidenced by how they once gave former Nebraska running back Lawrence Phillips a chance on what became a Grey Cup-winning team in Montreal. "Its all business," Alouettes general manager Jim Popp said. "Its real. Hes in great shape. He wants to play and well see how things are." Popp shrugged off the notion that Johnsons presence is a publicity stunt. "None of you would know it was here unless it got tweeted out," Popp said.dddddddddddd And Twitter does play quite a role in this story, since Johnson -- one of the worlds most popular athletes when it comes to social media -- used the power of his 3.6 million followers to help get the Alouettes attention. "Power of Twitter," Johnson said, grinning. The Alouettes were working out at Dodgertown, where some schoolkids were playing baseball on a nearby field. When their game ended, about a dozen of them came over to the football field to chant "Oc-ho-cin-co!" repeatedly. Some fans wearing his old Cincinnati Bengals jerseys watched, as did a couple in Patriots colours. "Like a kid again," Johnson said. He showed Tuesday that he can still run routes, and right there is why Montreal is eager to take a closer look. The CFL game is very much passing-friendly, and that can be at least partially attributed to several rule deviations from the NFL game. Teams in the CFL have only three downs to gain 10 yards instead of four. The field is 10 yards longer from goal line to goal line, is about 10 yards wider, and the end zones are 20 yards deep -- twice as long as those used in high school, college and pro play in the U.S. Montreal quarterback Troy Smith, the former Ohio State standout, said most people dont realize how much talent is in the CFL. And he believes Johnson can make an impact. "I know hes going to bring some fun and excitement to the team," Smith said. In short, even though theres 12 players on the field per team instead of 11, theres plenty of room for offences to manoeuvr. And in Canada, receivers cant be blocked or jammed unless theyre within a yard of the line of scrimmage. Of course, if Johnson heads to the CFL, he wont be exactly getting rich. The salary cap in the CFL is $4.4 million per team -- Johnson has had years where hes made about twice that much by himself. The average salary is around $85,000. "I dont even need a check," Johnson said. "Didnt I give it all away for 12 years straight? Think about it. Did I ever care about money when I played throughout my career? Still dont. I want to have fun. I want to enjoy the game. Thats it." The Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled to talk to Marc Crawford and Ron Wilson about their head coaching vacancy, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported on Tuesday. Crawford was the head coach of the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings and Dallas Stars and coached 529 games with the Vancouver Canucks. He won the Jack Adams Award for NHL Coach of the Year in 1995, won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 1996 and also coached the Canadian mens hockey team at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games. Wilson, 59, coached four NHL teams over the last two decades, including the Anaheim Ducks, Washington Capitals, San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs with a 648-561-101-91 record. He led the Capitals to the Stanley Cup Final in 1998. Hired in 2008 by the Maple Leafs, he led the team to a 34-35-13 mark in his first season with the club finishing 12th in the Eastern Conference. The following year, the team posted a 30-38-14 record and finished last in the Conference. In 2010-11, Wilsons Leafs went 37-34-11 and finished 10th in the Conference. He was relieved of his duties from the team on Mar. 2, 2012. Wilson is also a candidate for the head coaching job with the Florida Panthers after taking part in the interview process with general manager Dale Tallon last week. Pistorius mindset when he stood on his stumps in a bathroom and pulled the trigger on his 9 mm pistol in the early hours of Feb. 14, 2013 remains the crux of the South African trial that has captured worldwide attention and is about to start its seventh week of globally televised proceedings. It was initially scheduled to run for three weeks. Judge Thokozile Masipa will analyze thousands of pages of testimony before she reaches a verdict, but ultimately must ponder the pivotal question: Did Pistorius fire his gun with the intention to kill or out of a misplaced belief that his life was in danger from a perceived intruder? South Africa does not have trial by jury, meaning Masipa will decide, with the help of two assessors, if Pistorius overall account is believable and whether the apparent inconsistencies in his testimony count against him or are unimportant in the bigger picture. If Pistorius defence, which will resume calling witnesses Monday after a two-week trial recess, can show that his story of a tragic error is a reasonable explanation, even the double-amputee runners shaky testimony would be rendered irrelevant and the judge should acquit him of murder, legal experts say. While testifying, Pistorius sometimes contradicted earlier testimony and other times said he did not remember details. "The test doesnt end there," former state prosecutor Marius du Toit said of Pistorius testimony. "Its not over. They (the defence) can still show there is another plausible scenario." Du Toit has over 20 years experience in South Africas criminal justice system and is following the trial closely. He said it must be shown that Pistorius had the "sole intention" to kill Steenkamp to be convicted of murder. Pistorius, 27, doesnt dispute that he shot 29-year-old Steenkamp through a toilet door. Hee claims the killing was accidental and he fired four times in quick succession without thinking and while terrified, believing that an intruder had climbed up a ladder and through a bathroom window of his Pretoria villa in the pre-dawn hours and was about to come out of the cubicle and attack him.dddddddddddd. Prosecutors charge that the story is an intricate lie designed to cover up a murder. They say the couple fought, Steenkamp fled to the toilet screaming and Pistorius followed her and shot her through the wood door while they were arguing. She was hit in the hip, arm and head. Charged with premeditated murder, the first amputee to run at the Olympics faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted. He was once widely admired for overcoming the amputation of his lower legs as a baby to earn the right to run against the worlds top able-bodied athletes. The prosecutions case appeared to be bolstered as holes in Pistorius story were exposed when the athlete was on the stand for a fierce five-day cross-examination by prosecutor Gerrie Nel. Nel also succeeded in undermining the evidence given by the defences first two expert witnesses, a pathologist and a former police forensic scientist. But defence lawyers have only presented three of up to 17 witnesses they say they may ask to testify. At the outset of the defences case, lawyer Barry Roux said Pistorius actions on Valentines Day last year centred on his "disability" and "vulnerability" and Pistorius team will likely seek to rebuild the overall argument that his actions were guided by fear and not anger in a country with a high rate of violent home invasions. Roux said he will also show that a crucial thread of the prosecutions case is not true; that neighbours heard a woman screaming before and during the shots fired by Pistorius at around 3.17 a.m. on the fatal night. The lawyer said neighbours who live closer to Pistorius house in an upscale gated community in the suburbs of South Africas capital never heard a woman scream. Instead, it was Pistorius high-pitched shrieks for help after realizing his terrible mistake, the defence argues. nfidence right now."
Mike OShea is staying on message — completely 100 per-cent on message — as his 6-5 football club travels to Vancouver to face the 6-4 B.C. Lions in what will determine fourth place, and possibly the CFLs crossover playoff spot, in the ultra-competitive West Division. For the Winnipeg Blue Bombers it is always "one game at a time" with no individual contest meaning more than any other. But is that really the case for OSheas crew at this juncture? The Bombers enter Week 12 having lost four of their last five games and are facing a division opponent they need to put behind them in the standings as they enter their first bye week of the season. "Theres lots of football left," repeated Mike OShea when asked if Saturdays game will carry more weight in determining his teams playoff potential, or be a bigger game compared to the others. "It cant be." OK, lets take a step back then, coach. How about this just being a so-called four-point game in the West Division race — do you believe in that? "I can barely count to four." So, is that a no? "Yeah, thats a no." However you slice it, it remains a possibility that fifth-place B.C.s No. 1 quarterback Travis Lulay may miss the remainder of the season due to a re-injured shoulder, and third-place Saskatchewans starter Darian Durant the same following surgery this week on a torn tendon in his elbow. So does the Blue Bombers first-year head coach look at it as a chance to solidify his clubs spot in the standings before their bye week? "Theres no point in looking at it that way. Travis Lulay (started) one game, right? So Kevin Glenn has got them to where they are now. In reality, Kevin Glenn has been the starter. And we dont play Saskatchewan again until the playoffs, so theres nothing really we can do about that. So as a fan, will I watch the games and note how different it is for Saskatchewan, how they try to win games? Yeah, maybe I will. You know, were done with them now until the playoffs." The reality remains, five of Winnipegs final seven games are against Western opponents, including two of their last three against the league-leading 9-1 Calgary Stampeders. "Obviously all of the West games are very important. Not just (B.C.), but against everyone," said quarterback Drew Willy ahead of his teams second trip to Vancouver, where they emerged 23-6 victors back in Week 5. "Its just hard to say how the season is going to play out. I mean, theres a lot of football to be played, but obviously it is a big game just by the way the standings look right now. For sure." Oh, and about that second Winnipeg bye week? It doesnt come around until the Blue Bombers complete their 18-game regular season schedule — Week 20. NOTES: The Bombers defensive front took another major hit this week, as tackle Zach Anderson suffered a torn ACL in practice and will miss the remainder of the season. This comes after fellow defensive linemen Jason Vega and Mike Cornell suffered knee injuries in the Banjo Bowl that will keep them out of action for a few weeks alongside starter Kashawn Fraser who injured his knee in the Labour Day Classic... Just nine days will separate the practice roster signings of defensive linemen Marvin Booker and Willie Moseley and them playing in Saturdays game in Vancouver. Booker will start at end, while Canadian Ameet Pall, inked this past Wednesday, completes the trio of newcomers on the 46-man roster... The Blue Bombers did acquire a defensive lineman following the injury to Fraser in Regina when they sent fifth-year veteran DB Alex Suber to the Argonauts for Thaddeus Gibson, but the veteran of six NFL clubs has run into passport problems while visiting the U.S. during Torontos bye week. Gibson is expected to join his new teammates soon... Linebacker and tackle-demon Ian Wild (shoulder) will miss a consecutive week, so it will be another game of Ejiro Kuale and Abe Kromah sharing and splitting reps in the middle of the linebacker corps... Backup running back Paris Cotton has been placed on Winnipegs practice roster and his agent is rumoured to be shopping the explosive runner and kick returner, which means Canadian back Carl Volny is looking to be the No. 2 ball-carrier in Blue and Gold for the foreseeable future... Linebacker/defensive back Johnny Sears looks like hes closing in on a return from being out of the lineup since late July with a hamstring/quad injury... Winnipegs leading receiver Clarence Denmark was inked to a contract extension on Friday that will keep him in Blue and Gold through the 2016 season. The CFLs second-leading receiver this year (646 yards) also lead the Blue Bombers in receiving in his third season with the club in the quarterback-carousel season of 2013. Adidas Superstar 2 Uk .C. - Wendell Scott earned a second NASCAR first on Wednesday: He became the first African-American driver to be elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Adidas Superstar Clr Red . The Canadian mens Olympic hockey team head coach arranged to take in some mens curling with a bunch of players before shuffling off to the nearby Bolshoy Ice Dome to scout the Russia-United States mens hockey game. Nike Air Max 90 Buy Online . -- LSU committed major violations while recruiting a junior college football player, but wont be slapped with any post-season bans or future scholarship reductions, the NCAA ruled Tuesday.DAVIE, Fla. -- Knowshon Moreno was activated Wednesday. But active? Not so much. The Miami Dolphins running back came off the physically unable to perform list and joined practice, a big step in his recovery from a knee injury that forced him to miss the first 12 days of training camp. But he spent most of the workout watching, sat out 11-on-11 drills and is certain to miss the first exhibition game Friday at Atlanta. "Today was testing the knee out and seeing how it feels," Moreno said. "I feel good. What I did today I felt pretty good doing. Now the next couple of days Ill just progress and do more and more each day. The main thing is to be ready for the season." Moreno signed a $3.275 million, one-year contract in March after five seasons with the Denver Broncos. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in June and said his rehabilitation went as expected. "Every day I did more and more in the training room," he said. "Now its time to do a little bit more on the field." Moreno lingered with an assistant coach after practice and was one of the last players off the field. "Its good to see the guys we expect to be playmakers this year come off the sideline and start getting some work," guard Daryn Colledge said. Lamar Miller led the Dolphins in rushing last season and has looked good in training camp, meaning Moreno will have to play catch-up in competition for the starting job. Because hes an excellent blocker and receiver, Moreno might be best-suited for the role of third-down back. But he also could help upgrade a ground game that ranked 26th in the NFL last year. "I cant really think about the depth chart," Moreno said. "Im going to do every play, every practice, every game 100 per cent. Whatever happenns after that will happen.dddddddddddd" Moreno and Miller will be running behind an offensive line with five new starters in the season opener. Even so, third-year coach Joe Philbin said hes optimistic about the running game. "The only thing I can tell you right now is that it has looked better in training camp so far than I remember it looking in prior training camps," Philbin said. "Thats the one thing that my eyes have seen so far. Obviously we havent seen it in a game yet, but I liked what Ive seen. I like the space weve created. I liked the way our lines have worked together so far. Thats really what gives me confidence right now." Moreno enjoyed a breakout season last year with the Broncos, ranking fifth in the NFL in yards from scrimmage. He rushed for 1,038 yards, caught 60 passes and scored 13 touchdowns -- all career highs -- to help Denver reach the Super Bowl. But that was with Peyton Manning. Now Moreno will line up with inconsistent third-year starter Ryan Tannehill in an offence that scored once in its final 24 possessions last year. Moreno and the rest of the Dolphins are learning a new scheme under first-year offensive co-ordinator Bill Lazor. "Im good with the playbook," Moreno said. "Its a totally different scheme from Denver, but I feel comfortable about it. Now its just going out there seeing it full speed versus the defence." Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe was among those happy to see Moreno in pads. Ellerbe recruited Moreno to Georgia, where they were teammates in 2006-08. "Im ready for him to get healthy and get out there on the field and help this team," Ellerbe said. "Hes a kind of guy with a lot of energy. Hes a fighter, a good player. Hes athletic. Ive been a fan since college." Cheap China Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China China NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China ' ' ' |

MIAMI -- Cleveland Browns and former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Davone Bess was arrested Friday on charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer at an airport, the latest in a series of personal problems for the NFL player. According to a Broward Sheriffs Office arrest report, Bess was approached by Deputy Thomas OBrien inside the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport terminal because he was "acting irrationally, dancing, singing with his pants repeatedly falling down." "I inquired if he was all right and received no response," OBrien said in the report, adding later that Bess "appeared to be looking through me" while they talked. Bess, 28, then picked up a cup of hot coffee from a counter and squeezed it, "which caused the cup to break with the liquid going all over my uniform," the deputy wrote. Bess then took up a "fighting stance," and OBrien said he hit the player on the leg with a baton to no effect. "Bess proceeded to take off his shirt and once again took up a fighting stance refusing my repeated orders to get on the ground," OBrien said, adding that Bess was finally taken into custody when backup officers arrived. Sheriffs office records show that Bess is charged with simple assault on an officer, resisting arrest without violence and disorderly conduct. It was not immediately clear whether Bess had a lawyer. Browns spokesman Zak Gilbert said the team was aware of the arrest and was gathering information. Bess was released Friday morning on $100 bail. The three charges are all misdemeanours. He did not comment about the substance of the charges to waiting television news crews. The Browns signed Bess last year to a three-year, $11.5 million contract after acquiring him from the Dolphins. This season Bess had career lows with 42 catches for 362 yards. The arrest comes one day after Bess posted a photo on his Twitter page of a small package containing what appears to be marijuana. The photo was later deleted. Last month, a photo posted on Bess Instagram account showed him lighting a cigar or marijuana joint next to a photo of late reggae star Bob Marley, a Rastafarian flag around his shoulders. On Dec. 19, the Browns placed Bess on the reserve/non-football illness list for what were described as personal reasons. He missed the final two games of the season. Bess spent five seasons with the Dolphins. His best year was in 2010, when he caught 79 passes for 820 yards and five touchdowns. for the first time since Jan. 10, sent a
Gerrie Nel, lawyer for the prosecution, finally got the opportunity hes been waiting for: cross-examining Oscar Pistorius. And he didnt waste any time getting down to business. In what was a relentless cross-examination, Nel set the stage early: Nel: "You killed a person. You killed Reeva Steenkamp, thats what you did. You shot and killed her. "Say Yes - say I killed Reeva Steenkamp." Pistorius: "I have a responsibility to Reeva and myself to tell the truth." Nel: "You will not hide things from the court." Pistorius: "Im human, I have faults, I have sins. Im a Christian. The Lord came down to this world for people who have sinned." Nel: "As a Christian you will not lie." And so the most critical confrontation of this trial began: seasoned litigator Nel versus Olympic double amputee Pistorius. Here are the key points covered in this first day of cross-examination. Pistorius: Intent To Kill Pistorius testified that not only did he not intend to shoot Steenkamp, he didnt intend to shoot anyone. Heres what he said, and as youll see, he made sure he was clear about it: Pistorius: "The discharge was accidental. I believed there was someone in the toilet coming out to attack me. I never intended to shoot anyone ... I went to the bathroom and felt in danger. I didnt have much time to think. I just discharged my firearm. I didnt intend to shoot someone. I shot out of fear. I didnt shoot at someone. I didnt intend to kill anyone...I didnt have time to think about what I was doing. I had finger on my trigger. I didnt intend to shoot anyone. I fired before I had a moment to comprehend what was happening." Nel: "Was the only way out for you to shoot an intruder?" Pistorius: "I didnt have time to think or not think about shooting an intruder. My life was in danger and I was worried what could happen to Reeva. People had been tied up on the estate before. Before thinking I fired four shots. When I realised the scale of what was happening I stopped firing. It was an accident, the way I discharged the firearm. I didnt intend to shoot." This is a massively important piece of testimony for Pistorius and a critical component of the trial. Heres why. Pistorius can still be convicted of murder if it can be shown that he intended to kill - period. It doesnt matter who - just that he intended to kill someone and that the force he used was disproportionately excessive given the circumstances. Remember, in order to make out the charge of murder against Pistorius, it must be shown that he had the requisite intent to kill and followed through on that intent. If convicted of murder, he would face 15 years in prison. So he wants to avoid a murder conviction and look to settle on a lesser charge of culpable homicide, which means killing someone by accident. If convicted on culpable homicide, he would likely only go to jail for five to 10 years. So despite firing four shots through a locked bathroom door at 3am, Pistorius repeatedly declared that he "didnt intend to shoot anyone" and the discharge was an "accident". These statements are designed to establish that Pistorius lacked the intent needed to make out a conviction of murder. Its not enough to say he didnt intend to shoot Steenkamp; he needs to say that he didnt intend to shoot anyone. Pistorius testimony shows that he was well prepared by his lawyers. He hit on the key legal points in ordinary English. However, the issue of plausibility remains. As Nel pointed out, "was the only way out for you to shoot the intruder?". For example, he could have grabbed Steenkamp and fled. This is the most important element from Day 1 of the cross-examination of Pistorius. Zombie Stopper Nel was relentless in his cross-examination. In part, that was designed to try and break Pistorius and push him to admit he intended to kill Steenkamp. One way Nel tried to apply pressure on Pistorius was by presenting the Melon Video. The video was also produced because it helped paint Pistorius as reckless and gun-crazed. In the video, Pistorius and friends blow up melons with guns and Pistorius is heard saying this: "Its a lot softer than brain but its like a zombie stopper." This was followed by Nels blunt question: Nel: "One can see the effect the ammunition had on a water melon. It exploded. You know the same thing happened to Reevas head?" Reconstruction or Reworked Evidence Nel also focused on inconsistencies in Pistorius statement to police right after the death of Steenkamp. Nel accused Pistorius of "reconstructing" or "reworking" his evidence. For example, in Pistorius bail application, he said that he went to the balcony to retrieve a fan. However, on the stand today he denied that. While some of these inconsistencies may not seem important, Nel told Pistorius they were in fact not "insignificant" as they show "you are lying." Before the trial was adjourned for the day, Nel made a point of referring to todays testimony as "Day 1" of the cross-examination of Pistorius. This suggests that the cross may continue for days. Indeed, there is more in store for the most critical witness of this trial. Adidas Hombre/Mujer Yeezy Boost 350 Pirate Negras Zapatos . Friday, they found a solution to the problem. Detroit dominated Brooklyn for two-and-a-half quarters, building a 29-point lead, then held on for dear life as the Nets cut the lead to single digits in the waning moments. Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks said after the game that he thinks his team has developed a mental block when it comes to holding leads down the stretch. "You can get one of those," he said. "Fortunately, we had a huge lead tonight, but that is still something we really need to work on. I think we need to win a couple games in the fourth quarter and find some confidence." Brooklyn trailed 96-63 heading into the fourth, but Detroits offence stalled yet again. Jason Kidd didnt play his starters at all in the final period, but Jason Terry hit a pair of 3-pointers and Mason Plumlee got open for three dunks to get the Nets within 102-92 with 1:57 to go. "We could not get a rebound or a stop, so I was trying to find guys who can play," Kidd said. "The guys who were out there playing continued to execute and we finally got some stops." Rodney Stuckey hit a 17-foot baseline jumper on Detroits next possession, then hit a pair of free throws to stave off a complete collapse. "We were bleeding at that point, so we really needed those points," Cheeks said. "We stopped pushing the ball in the fourth, and they started making shots, so that made it even harder to run." Brandon Jennings made a run at a rare quadruple double, and could have had a regular triple-double if he had managed a single second-half assist. He finished with 26 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and eight turnovers. Andre Drummond added 16 points and 22 rebounds, even hitting two free throws with 36.5 seconds to go after missing his first six attempts. Josh Smith had with 23 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four blocks before leaving the game with 4:39 to play. Cheeks said Smith twisted his ankle, but the team wasnt sure of the severity. The Nets were resting Kevin Garnett, and the starting lineup struggled badly, combining for just 442 points.dddddddddddd Terry led the team with 18, all in the second half, while Plumlee also got his 10 points after halftime. Joe Johnson added 16 as the one bright spot among Brooklyns starters. "We knew what we had to do against them -- rebound and get back in transition defence," Nets point guard Deron Williams said. "We just werent ready to play tonight. Our energy wasnt there, our effort wasnt there and they seemed to have another gear than we did." With Garnett on the bench, the Nets had no answer for Detroit inside. When the Pistons werent feeding Drummond, Smith and Greg Monroe in the post, Stuckey and Jennings were driving to the basket with ease. Brooklyns struggles peaked early in the second quarter when Smith was swooping in for a fast-break dunk and Mirza Teletovic swiped at the ball, but caught Smith in the face. Teletovic was given a flagrant foul, giving Smith two chances to make one free throw to complete the three-point play. He made it on the second try and Detroit kept the ball because of the flagrant foul. Chauncey Billups, playing for the first time since Jan. 10, sent a behind-the-back pass to set up Drummond for an easy dunk and a five-point possession. That put the Pistons up by 20, and they were ahead 67-44 at the intermission. The Nets, who were outshot 62 per cent to 31 per cent in the half, didnt get much better in the third quarter, with a series of turnovers leading to Detroit fast breaks. At that point, the Pistons seemed in complete control, but that just isnt the way they play. "Once a team cuts it to 20, that should get your attention," Billups said. "Thats when you should kick back into a more focused gear." NOTES: The Pistons announced before the game that reserve forward Josh Harrellson will be sidelined until after the All-Star break with a slight tear of his left meniscus. ... Kidd was the last NBA player to reach double figures in points, assists, rebounds and turnovers in the same game, doing it for Phoenix in 2000. ... Will Bynum did not play after getting into an argument with Cheeks during Detroits last game. Cheeks said he simply wanted to get Billups back into the rotation.
