The Los Angeles Kings have re-signed forward Dustin Penner. The one-year deal is worth $3.25 million. The 29-year-old forward scored seven goals and added 11 assists in 65 games with the Los Angeles Kings in 2011-12. He added three goals and eight assists in 20 games, helping the team win its first Stanley Cup in franchise history. Penner has scored 135 goals and 127 assists in 489 career games with the Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Anaheim Ducks. He just played the final season of a five-year, $21.25 million contract he signed with the Oilers in 2008. That deal became something of a lightning rod, since it was the result of an offer-sheet the Oilers submitted to him as a restricted free agent. That contract came after Penners first full NHL season in which he scored 29 goals as a 24-year-old. He would add three goals and five assists in 21 playoff games, helping the Ducks win the 2007 Stanley Cup. The Oilers would trade him to the Kings at the 2011 trade deadline in exchange for Colten Teubert and a first-round draft pick. He was originally signed by Anaheim as an undrafted free agent in 2004. Air Max Zero Prix . Despite almost exhausting all methods of saying no by this point, the B.C. native once again shot down the notion of facing his teammate. However, MacDonalds reluctance appeared to raise the ire of Tyron Woodley, who was preparing for a bout with Josh Koscheck. Air Max 90 Print Pas Cher . Berdych, an Australian Open semifinalist, dominated throughout as he cruised to a 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 victory for the defending champions in the first round matchup. Never facing a break point, the seventh-ranked Berdych broke Sijsling early in each set and secured one break in the first set, two in the second and three in the third before converting his first match point with a powerful forehand winner. http://www.nikepaschermax90.fr/femme-nike-air-max-90-running-chaussures-blanche-jade.html . "Ive got a lot of work to do on this team and the sooner that I can get back to my office and start that work, itll be better," he said straight-faced as the rest of the room erupted in laughter. Nike Air Max 1 Homme Verte Rouge Chaussures . -- The NFL suspended Chiefs backup offensive lineman Rokevious Watkins for four games Thursday for violating its substance-abuse policy. MIAMI -- Atlanta Braves left-hander Mike Minor is set to pitch in the major leagues for the first time this season. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says Minor will start Friday night at home against San Francisco. The 26-year-old Minor has been slowed by shoulder soreness this season. Hes pitched five times in the minor leagues during rehabilitation games at three different levels. "We just wanted to make sure Mikey was healthy," Gonzalez said before Tuesday nights game at Miami. "But he feels good." Minor had urinary tract surgery on Dec. 31, delaying his spring schedule. After the shoulder soreness developedd, he was shut down in spring training.dddddddddddd Minor went 13-9 with a 3.21 ERA last year. He pitched a career-high 204 innings and led the team with 181 strikeouts. Even without Minor and other injured pitchers, the NL East-leading Braves top the majors with a 2.04 ERA going into the game against the Marlins. As for Fridays impending roster move when Minor comes off the disabled list, Gonzalez said it will likely be a pitcher who gets sent to the minors. "It will depend on who would benefit to go down and be stretched out (as a starter), and who will do a better job out of the bullpen," Gonzalez said. No penalty was called on the play.TORONTO - The plot thickens over defender Doneil Henry, who remains in the Toronto FC fold for the time being despite being secretly sold six months ago to a club in Cyprus. The 21-year-old Canadian international, who has made no secret of his desire to play in Europe, spent the 2014 season on loan with Toronto. News that his contract was owned by a club some 9,000 kilometres away didnt surface until late last week. Neither Toronto or Henry have identified which club bought him back in April. And its possible that Henry could be back in a Toronto uniform next year on loan. As of right now, a lot of discussions still have to be made between myself and Toronto, Henry told reporters Tuesday at Torontos end-of-season player availability. Im weighing my options to see where my future will go. Ill sit down with my agent, my family and Ill see what the best decision is for me. Toronto GM Tim Bezbatchenko said he felt no need to announce the sale because Henry was still with the club and there was no change in his salary cap hit. But there was a financial transaction with a transfer and loan fee, not to mention an allocation money credit. For a league struggling with traansparency issues, a secret sale seems a step backwards.dddddddddddd Henry, however, said he wanted to keep things quiet because he didnt want to be a distraction. I never left. I was here. My focus was with Toronto so me staying here I just wanted to help do my part as a player with Toronto. Asked why he could not divulge the Cyprus team that owns him, he replied: Right now I dont feel comfortable talking about that. Eventually you guys will find out. Henry said not telling anyone about the deal wasnt difficult because my heart was always here in Toronto. Despite his tender age, Henry is the current longest-serving player on the Toronto roster. He has played 70 league games for TFC since making his debut in 2010. The six-foot 180-pounder from Brampton, Ont., became the first player from the Toronto FC academy to graduate to the first team when he signed a pro contract in August 2010. Former manager Ryan Nelsen sent him to Englands West Ham in the last off-season to train with the Premier League team. An athletically gifted defender, Henry is a raw talent with a big up-side. Nelsen saw him as eventually playing at the highest level in Europe. BALTIMORE -- Growing up, Kentucky Derby winner Orb was just another horse who fit in with the crowd. Never caused problems. Never raised a ruckus. Never got sick or hurt while frolicking in the fields of Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., with his pals, or when he was learning how to be a racehorse at Niall Brennans farm in Ocala, Fla. Did everything asked of him. "A model citizen," says Claiborne Farm manager Bradley Purcell. Brennan remembers the colt did everything right. "His workouts, his focus, he didnt fret about things, he was enjoying it," he says. And wouldnt you know it: In his racing debut, last Aug. 18 at Saratoga, Orb leaped in the air as the gates opened and trailed by 14 lengths early on in the seven-furlong race. He made a remarkable recovery, though, and finished third, just 1 1/4 lengths behind the winner. "He was so far behind," recalled his jockey, Joel Rosario. "He made up a lot of ground, and I was impressed. My agent told me, maybe hes going to be a nice horse." Maybe? A few more growing pains followed, like smacking his head in the starting gate in his second race. But a two-month break allowed trainer Shug McGaughey to work out the colts gate issues, and by his fourth start, Orb had found the winners circle -- a two-length victory at Aqueduct on Nov. 24. He hasnt lost since, winning three times at Gulfstream Park, including the Fountain of Youth and the Florida Derby, building confidence and gaining experience along the way. And then came the ultimate moment: charging down the stretch over a sloppy track and winning the Derby by 2 1/2 lengths. "I wish I could tell you back then he looked like a horse who could win the Kentucky Derby," Purcell said. "He had good size, and strength. All we do is let them grow and Mother Nature does the rest." So far, so good, and a win over eight rivals in Saturdays $1 million Preakness would send Orb back home to New York for the Belmont Stakes on June 8 with a chance to become racings first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. "I wouldnt be telling the truth if I said I dont think about (the Triple Crown), because I do," McGaughey said. "I try to block it out, but if youre in this position, anybody would think about it. Its a thrilling thought, but weve got to get by Saturday. If we do, the next three weeks will be a lot of fun." Orb seems to be enjoying it, too, appearing cool and calm around the Pimlico stakes barn in the mornings while hundreds of people are milling around, many angling for the best photo op in cramped quarters. He was the same way at Churchill Downs. "Hes pretty laid back," McGaughey said. A bay son of Malibu Moon, out of the mare Lady Liberty, co-owner Stuart Janney III came up with the name. "I like it. Every poet who refers to the moon, uses the word orb," Janney explained. "I try to name the horses to go with the mare and stallion." Orbs bloodlines are filled with champions. Malibu Moon is a son of 1992 Horse of the Year A.P. Indy, and currently is North Americas second-leading sire. Lady Liberty is a daughter of 1990 Derby and Breeders Cup Classic winner Unbridled. Still, there was not much fanfare when Orb was born in February 2010. It was a "textbook" birth, Purcell said, adding Orb was probably 120-130 pounds -- the average weight for a foal. He was among a group of eight colts who spent hours together in the same field. One of them, Departing, is running in the Preakness. When Orb was sent to Ocala in August 2011, Brennan already had an idea of what he was getting since hed been the Claiborne to chart Orbs development, as well as dozens of other horses. "He always looked good physically, but there were others that were the same," Brennan said. "At that time, its like kids on a soccer field playing around and as you get into early spring, they start separating themselves. You begin to see their athletic ability and Orb at this time a year ago was doing very well." Orb was among the first group of Brennans 2-year-olds to be sent out to their respective trainers. Also under his care at the time were two other Derby horses -- Revolutionary and Palace Malice -- and Dens Legacy, who was on the Derby trail for a while. Ogden Mills "Dinny" Phipps, who co-owns Orb with Janney, remembers seeing the horse early on and not being overly impressed. "I think we really thought he was just a horse," Phipps said. "I dont think even Shug thought he was much better than that. But after he came back from the Fountain of Youth he came back looking bigger, better and stronger and then he did the same thing after the Florida Derby. And after the Derby. Lets just hope thats the way hes headed (going into the Preakness)." Despite Orbs troubles at the start of his racing career, McGaughey now marvels at what may be the best horse hes ever trained over a 34-year career that includes 1989 Belmont Stakes winner Easy Goer and many female champions topped by undefeated Personal Ensign. "He has filled out so much physically," McGaughey said. "I look at him and I cant believe what Im seeing from last November to now. Mentally, everything has come together. He was a bit difficult at the gate all of his 2-year-old year and thats all behind him. I couldnt be more pleased with his development." During his win streak, Orb had a new rider for the Fountain of Youth and Florida Derby in John Velazquez because Rosario had a prior racing commitment. Rosario regained the mount for the Derby after Velazquez chose Verrazano as his Derby horse. On the day Orb won the Florida Derby, Rosario was in Dubai winning the $10 million World Cup aboard Animal Kingdom. "This is very good," he said of Orbs win. "Hes really getting much better. He showed it in the Kentucky Derby, and I hope he shows it on Saturday." Orb is considered a closer, but McGaughey says hes versatile. "He comes from back, but they dont have to take him back," McGaughey said. "It depends on the colour of the race. If its a fast pace, hell be off of it, but if its slow, I think hell actually be laying up close like he was in the Florida Derby within four, five, six lengths. And he has got enough of a punch that you dont take him out of the game plan when you do lay up close." McGaughey does not take all the credit for Orbs success. Credit also goes to exercise rider Jenn Patterson, who has spent as much time with Orb as anyone. She was with him in the weeks before the Florida Derby, and would make the weekly three-hour round trip drive from Gulfstream Park to Payson Park for Orbs workouts. "Without her, we wouldnt be here," McGaughey said. "Its not only her riding ability, its her horsemanship and dedication to the whole thing. Nobody will know how much I appreciate her and what I think of her and her abilities. The rapport we have between each other... I think its a pretty remarkable relationship." And because of it, Orb no longer fits in with the crowd. He stands out. http://www.soccerspainonline.com/Isco-UEFA-European-Spain-Jersey/ .J. - The New York Jets could be down two of their top receivers when they take on the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. Tony Parker had 18 points and eight assists and Duncan had 15 points and eight rebounds and San Antonio rolled to a 111-90 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, extending the Spurs franchise record winning streak to 19 games.FIVE QUICK NBA THOUGHTS: 1. NBA FINALS PREDICTION - Spurs in 7: A major percentage of folks are rooting for the Spurs - so am I - yet, I feel that when its all said and done, both of these teams are pretty even when you compare/contrast their strengths and weaknesses. I do think the Spurs have a preparation edge, having had to play the tougher competition all season on a more nightly basis in both the regular season and playoffs in the Western Conference, and it helps that theyve gone through the fire on a more consistent basis. The Heat have the better "Big 3" from a talent perspective and the best player on the planet in LeBron James. Tony Parkers health status concerns me for San Antonio. So many variables that you can toss around and argue over, which Ive done, but Im just going to go with my gut here and take the Spurs. Last years series was terrific and I hope and think that this one will be even better. Enjoy! 2. RANDY WITTMAN (Wizards): A job well done in getting his team to the second round and figuring out how to win which led to a well deserved contract extension. This team was always a bit of a tease the past few years, yet Wittman pushed them to the next level and got nice buy in from them on how the game should be played. Now, they have to try and keep Marcin Gortat and Trevor Ariza who are both free agents. Regardless, I think the future is bright and on solid ground due to the leadership of Wittman. 3. CHANDLER PARSONS (Rockets): Houston has apparently declined to pick up the option on his contract. I love this guys game and hes still really improving. Parsons shoots it and plays with great energy and awareness. Hell be a restricted free agent and it will be interesting if they can make a run at another big free agent to team with Dwight Howard and James Harden and then try to match Parsonss offer sheet that hell surely get in the open market.dddddddddddd Hes a guy that I consider a glue guy who you can win with and has lots of value because he backs it up with production as well. Its going to be a delicate situation to navigate for GM Daryl Morey and coach Kevin McHale with an important piece of the puzzle. Im quite curious to see how it unfolds. 4. JEFF BOWER (Pistons): Stan Van Gundy hired him as his GM and I really like this hire. Ive known Jeff for over 25 years and hes a good basketball man. Hes paid his dues as a NCAA Div. 1 assistant and head coach and has spent a great deal of time in the NBA with the Charlotte Hornets, as well as their move to New Orleans, as their assistant and head coach, scout, assistant GM and finally GM. He knows all the ins and outs of the business and is someone that Van Gundy can trust to handle the front office responsibilities for him. Van Gundy will have final say on all basketball matters, but you need someone to look after lots of details while youre busy coaching. This really makes sense to me. 5. LaMARCUS ALDRIDGE (Blazers): Aldridge was named to All-NBA Third Team today, but I really feel he should be on Second Team ahead of Kevin Love at the power forward spot. I strongly believe that winning should and does matter. You could argue that Aldridge has a little better supporting cast in Portland, yet when I give the eye test, I see Aldridge perform consistently at a high level against all competition and I see Love as a guy who gets nice numbers within the structure of the game, but Im still just a bit skeptical about what he brings to the table in terms of competitive production in the major moments of the game. I think Aldridge is a Second teamer and Love is a Third. Just my opinion, but winning has to mean something. OAKLAND, Calif. - Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob says the team is pushing back plans to build an arena on the San Francisco waterfront at least one year. Lacob confirmed recent reports that opening the arena by the original 2017 target date is no longer possible during an interview Tuesday on the teams radio affiliate. Instead, Lacob told KNBR-680 that the Warriors are "planning on full steam ahead in 18." The Warriors have faced mounting costs and opposition for an arena on a dilapidated pier near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge since they announced their intentions during an elaborate news conference on May 22, 2012. The project also might need voter approval because it exceeds current waterfront height restrictions. The Warriors played in San Francisco from 1962 to 1971 after moving from Philadelphia. The team has played across the bay in Oakland since. o before Aldridge
After two full days off, the Montreal Canadiens were back to work with a light 45 minute practice as they continue to wait for their opponent in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Having a rest at this time of year is a luxury every team would love to have, but some fans are worried that this break might kill the momentum the Canadiens gained after sweeping the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, those concerns are not shared in the Habs locker room. "I feel like I ended the series on the right note and that will carry over to the second round,” Max Pacioretty told the media. “Im completely stress free right now and its nice to have a little bit of a mental vacation." The players are viewing this break as a mini training camp, elevating the intensity level every day. The Canadiens will welcome back Travis Moen for the second round of the playoffs. Moen was sidelined with a concussion after a fight with Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller back on March 24. The veteran is part of the teams leadership group and plays a key role on the Habs penalty kill. He also brings plenty of experience in the playoffs, having already won a Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks back in 2007. Now, the challenge for Michel Therrien will be to figure out where Moen might fit in his lineup. "Its always tough to take someone out of the lineup, so we arent quite sure where we are going right now," the Habs bench boss said. Therrien will wait until his second round opponent is confirmed before he gets into his lineup. At the moment he said his focus is to make sure that his players keep their conditioning levels up during this break. Nike Roshe Run Saldi Online . "It definitely shows what were going to see in the playoffs," Portlands All-Star forward said, "where every possession counts and every basket counts." Aldridge had 26 points, including the go-ahead basket in the waning moments of overtime, and the Trail Blazers emerged with a 119-117 victory over the Warriors on Sunday night. The win, which featured 16 lead changes and nine ties, assured the Blazers of no less than the fifth seed in the playoffs. It also assured a post-season matchup against Houston, sitting in fourth in the Western Conference. With a win in one of their two remaining games, the Rockets can clinch home-court advantage. Portlands win came despite the best efforts of Golden States Stephen Curry, who had a season-high 47 points. It was the third time this season Curry has eclipsed 40 points, and sixth time in his career. The Warriors sit behind Portland in the standings with two games to go. Golden State will need to win one of its last two games to clinch the sixth seed. "This is kind of what you expect from two playoff teams," Curry said. "From start to finish it definitely had that playoff feel." Aldridges jumper with 39.9 seconds to go gave the Blazers a 118-117 lead. Damian Lillard added a free throw for Portland before Andre Iguodala missed a 3-pointer with 2.9 seconds left and Wesley Matthews grabbed the rebound for the Blazers. Matthews added 24 points for Portland, which has won four straight and eight of its past nine games. The Blazers wrap up the regular season on Wednesday against the Clippers. Draymond Green hit a 3-pointer for Golden State to tie it late in the fourth quarter and Matthews missed a corner 3 as time ran out to send the game into overtime. Currys 3 gave Golden State a 111-110 lead in OT. After Matthews scored on a bank shot and free throw, Klay Thompsons 3 gave the Warriors back the lead. Matthews and Thompson exchanged 3s before Aldridges jumper gave the Blazers the lead and the Warriors couldnt answer. Thompson finished with 25 points. &"I told the guys before the game, I thought this would be a great tuneup for the playoffs," Blazers coach Terry Stotts said.dddddddddddd "This wasnt a playoff game and it wasnt necessarily a playoff atmosphere, but I felt like both teams really wanted the game and you were going to see a lot of effort from both teams. Its heightened in the playoffs, but I felt this was good preparation for us." Warriors centre Andrew Bogut did not play in overtime and after the game the team said he was undergoing a rib X-ray. His status for Monday nights game at home against Minnesota was not immediately known. Portland activated backup forward Joel Freeland, who has been out since Feb. 11 with a sprained MCL in his right knee, but he did not play. Spanish forward Victor Claver was moved to the inactive list with Freelands return. Iguodalas dunk pulled the Warriors to a 46-44 lead in the first half before Curry hit a 3-pointer. Lillard fouled Curry from 3-point range at the buzzer and Curry made all three free throws to put Golden State up 52-44 at the break. The Warriors ended the half on a 14-2 run. Curry led all players with 21 points. Portland rallied early in the final quarter, taking an 87-77 lead on Lillards 3-pointer. But Currys 3-pointer and a jumper pulled the Warriors within 95-93 with 6:01 left. Iguodalas basket tied it at 95 with 4:54 to go. The two teams wrestled the rest of regulation. Thompsons long jumper gave Golden State a 102-101 edge with 41.9 seconds to go before Aldridge made a pair of free throws. Curry drove for a layup but missed and Matthews made free throws to give the Blazers a 105-102 lead, but Greens step-back 3-pointer tied it at 105 with 3.6 seconds left. Notes: Curry extended his NBA-leading streak of 68 straight games with a 3-pointer. He is now fifth for the longest streak all time, matching Reggie Miller. ... on Wednesday night. Danny Cruz also score
TALLADEGA, Ala. -- The leader on the last lap isnt supposed to win at Talladega Superspeedway. Everybody knows that. Brad Keselowski disagrees, and he showed how to do it Sunday with a calculated plan that sent him to Victory Lane. Keselowski used a big push from Kyle Busch to pass leader Matt Kenseth, and after leaving the Daytona 500 winner in their wake, Keselowski staved off Buschs attempt to snatch the win. Using a move Keselowski said he had dreamed about, he held on for his second win of the season and second at Talladega. "I had this whole plan if I ever got in that situation where I was leading; I thought about it and thought about it, dreamed about what to do, and sure enough, going into (turn) three, it was just me and Kyle," Keselowski said. "I knew the move I wanted to pull. It worked because the guy running second should have the advantage, but I had this move all worked up in my mind." Keselowski was the first driver in the last five races at Talladega to take the white flag and hold on for the win. He did it with a plan that left both Busch and Kenseth flat-footed, and both praised Keselowski after the race. "Hes no dummy, thats for sure," said Busch, who wound up second for the second consecutive day. Busch was the leader on the last lap of Saturdays Nationwide Series race, and was passed by Joey Logano right at the finish line. He conceded theres little the leader can do to preserve the victory on the last lap of a restrictor-plate race, and predicted how Sunday would unfold. "If youre leading, being pushed, plan on finishing second. Thats all there is to it," Busch said after Saturdays defeat. So he should have been sitting pretty after pushing Keselowski to the front. Instead, Keselowski went high into the third turn, then pulled off of Buschs bumper to create some separation. "That allowed me to drive untouched to the checkered flag," Keselowski said. "It wasnt easy to convince myself to do that, but it was the right move." Busch initially seemed dumbfounded. "I must have screwed something up, because we got to turn three and came unhooked," Busch said. "Just gave the win away over there. Not sure exactly what happened. We definitely need to go back and figure out what it was." Kenseth didnt feel much better. He led seven times for a race-high 73 laps, but believed he gave the win away on the final restart. A nine-car accident with four laps remaining brought out the yellow flag, setting up a two-lap overtime sprint to the finish. Kenseth, as the leader, got to pick where he wanted to restart and chose the outside line so Roush Fenway Racing teammate Greg Biffle would line up behind him and presumably push him to the victory. That put Keselowski and Busch together on the inside line, but they drifted back on the restart as Kenseth indeed was able to jump out to a huge lead. It was probably too big of a lead. Kenseth got a little too far away from Biffle, which gave the Keselowski-Busch tandem a chance to catch him. The two cars sailed past Kenseth on the outside line. "I think we had the winning car, really just didnt have the winning driver," Kenseth said. "I looked forward for a second, when I looked back, Greg and I were separated, those guys were already outside of him. With me not paying attention, keeping us hooked up, just cost us a shot at the win, cost Greg a shot at the win." "I wasnt too fast. I was just too stupid I guess at the end to keep a win." It put Keselowski in Victory Lane for the second time this season, which helps his championship chances. Hes been streaky through the first 10 races of the year, and even with this second victory, hes only ranked 12th in the Sprint Cup standings. But those wins should guarantee him at least a wild-card berth into the 12-driver Chase for the Sprint Cup championship field. "Two wins, with the wild card and all, that almost makes you immune to missing the Chase," Keselowski said. "This team is going to be strong come Chase time. The best is yet to come." The victory continued a hot streak for team owner Roger Penske, who won for the first time in the Sprint Cup Series at Talladega. It was also the first win for manufacturer Dodge at Talladega since Dave Marcis in 1976. Penske, meanwhile, has won all four of the IndyCar races so far this season and driver Will Power is leading the series standings as they prepare for the May 27 Indianapolis 500. For now, though, the team owner is thinking about where Keselowski can take him. Penske has never won a Cup title since entering NASCAR in 1972, although he was out of the series from 1981 through 1990. Keselowski gave him a Nationwide Series championship in 2010, his only NASCAR title. "Obviously, one of the goals in my life is to sit up on that stage (at the championship banquet), and I think hes the guy that can make it happen this year," said Penske, who called it the perfect race. That might be going a little too far, which even Keselowski would admit. He helped cause a caution with seven laps to go when he ran into the back of former Penske teammate Kurt Busch. Keselowski was apologetic immediately after climbing from his car in Victory Lane. "I got to Kurt and tried to push him. He tried staying in line. He didnt want to go," Keselowski said. "He probably didnt know what was going on behind him, which is natural. When he decided not to go, I tried to force him to go. It was a combination of events that were unfortunate. I hated to see that happen." On the restart with four laps remaining, Penskes other driver, AJ Allmendinger, was part of the accident that stopped the action again. It was the last of five cautions in yet another race that featured fairly clean racing. NASCARs now had six consecutive uncharacteristically clean races, which drew a tongue-and-cheek response from defending series champion Tony Stewart, who was collected in the Allmendinger accident. "Im upset that we didnt crash more cars," said Stewart, who finished 24th. "Thats what were here for. I feel bad if I dont spend at least $150,000 in torn-up race cars going back to the shop. Weve definitely got to do a better job at that." Kasey Kahne finished fourth and was followed by Biffle, Clint Bowyer and David Ragan. Trevor Bayne was eighth, Dale Earnhardt Jr. ninth and Jeff Burton rounded out the top 10. PHILADELPHIA -- Its far from a coincidence that the Edmonton Oilers went big with the third pick in the NHL draft. In taking German centre Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers added some much-needed size and depth at a position of great importance. "Its not a stretch to say were really happy and think that we filled a tremendous need for our hockey club and I think is going to have a real significant impact over time with our team," general manager Craig MacTavish said Friday night. "You combine him with our No. 1 pick last year (Darnell Nurse), and we start to see some size and quite a bit of character continue to come into our dressing room." Beyond 2011 No. 1 pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the Oilers are thin at centre. And in Draisaitl, the highest-drafted German in NHL history, they get a six-foot-one, 208-pound player who has drawn comparisons to Anze Kopitar and Jaromir Jagr. Playing for the WHLs Prince Albert Raiders, Draisaitl had 38 goals and 67 assists in 64 games this past season as he developed his defensive game and faceoff prowess. Hes from Cologne but came to develop in the Canadian junior system and will remain in North America this summer to train. There are still things Draisaitl believes he needs to improve this off-season but the physically mature 18-year-old also thinks hell be ready to play in the NHL in 2014-15. MacTavish cant make such a guarantee. "Obviously we project the team to be much more productive and much deeper than we were this year, and thatll be a significant factor," he said. "We want to make sure that if we do put young kids into our lineup that they have a chance to have success, and thatll be a big factor along with how well he adapts to the NHL game at training camp." Just having a chance to earn a spot at training camp is a nice opportunity for Draisaitl, who understands he wont just be handed a job playing alongside Nugent-Hopkins, Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle. "Im going to have to do my job and earn my spot if I want to play in that league and on that team," Draisaitl said. "I think theyre moving forward for sure and they made some good trades, (David) Perron, and the guys are getting older and more mature. This is just awesome right now." Draisaitl was thrilled to put on the same orange and blue of Edmonton stars of the past, most of whom had their primes before he was born. "Theyve had so many great players on their team: Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, MacTavish -- all those guys are stars in the league, and wearing the same jersey as they do is unbelievable," he said. MacTavish joked that he owed Draisaitl $100 for dropping his name in that group. More importantly for the GMs current job, he hopes Draisaitl can develop into an important piece of this already young core. Draisaitl fills a specific role, too, as the Oilers seek a variety of talent at forward. "(He) protects the puck and is a real offensive-zone player," MacTavish said. "Weve got a lot of skill, but were in need of somebody down low thats capable of sustaining the play. We have David Perron that fits that bill and now Leon will be a guy that can really protect the puck." If Draisaitl develops as scouts expect, he would slot in as the Oilers No. 2 centre of the future. His size mixed with Halls speed could be a tantalizing combination. "Hes probably the fastest skater in the league and hes an exciting player to watch," Draisaitl said. "It might be a good fit, but you never know." MacTavish would love to spend Saturday adding more depth to the organization, but the Oilers dont have a second- or a third-round pick after trades for Perron and goaltender Ben Scrivens. And he doesnt expect to be able to get into the second. "Well be sitting on our hands, it looks like, through the second or third round," MacTavish said. "Hopefully the scouts can pull a few of those impact players out of the later picks." Nike Air Max 90 Mens Cheap . And well he should. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Royals ace James Shields is open to staying in Kansas City beyond this season. That news should make the thousands of fans, already flying high over the teams strong finish a year ago, feel even better as they turned out for their annual FanFest on Friday. The Royals exercised their $13.5 million option on Shieldss contract shortly after going 86-76 last season, their best finish since 1989. The durable right-hander was a big reason behind the success, going 13-9 with a 3.15 ERA in an American League-leading 228.2 innings. Shields told a small group of reporters at Bartle Hall that he was willing to discuss an extension, but he said those talks with general manager Dayton Moore have not taken place. "Id definitely be open-minded to it," Shields said. "A player in my position, where I have one more year left before free agency, I mean, Im definitely open to it. I like Kansas City. I like the organization and I like the direction were going." If Shields went to the open market, its unlikely that the Royals would be a player in the chase. There were reports this off-season that he would seek a contract similar to that of former Royals star Zack Greinke, who signed a $147 million, six-year deal with the Dodgers last season. "Thats absolutely not true at all," Shields said. "I have no clue where he got that from, to be honest with you. Ive had no discussions with Dayton at all. "If Dayton wants to talk about it, Im more than willing to sit and talk about it. But during the season, my main focus is trying to win games and get some wins for this team." Pitchers and catchers are due to report to Surprise, Ariz., for the start of spring training on Feb. 14. The first full-squad workout is Feb. 20. Most of the Royals key pieces return from lasst season, when they contended into September for the first time in a decade.dddddddddddd Their two biggest holes were filled by trading reliever Will Smith to Milwaukee for right field Norichika Aoki and signing Omar Infante to solidify second base. "I didnt think our defence could get any better," Shields said, "but theyre definitely filling some holes that we had. And theyre great additions to our lineup." Then theres the starting rotation, where Ervin Santana has become a free agent. While the right-hander has yet to sign elsewhere, the Royals appeared to move on when they signed left-hander Jason Vargas to a contract early in the off-season. Along with Jeremy Guthrie, the first three spots in the rotation are set. That leaves two up for grabs among a handful of candidates, including starters-turned-relievers Wade Davis and Luke Hochevar, veteran Bruce Chen, left-hander Danny Duffy and flame-thrower Yordano Ventura. "Ive just been working hard, resting my arm," said Ventura, who had a 3.52 ERA in three late-season starts in Kansas City. "Ive just been getting ready because I want to get out there and make the team." That doesnt figure to be an easy task given the glut of competition. "Its a competitive game anyway," Davis said. "Why not do it from within a little bit?" Davis said that he spent the off-season in the weight room, and pronounced himself more ready for this season than any previous year. He also said that hes already been throwing some bullpen sessions, giving him a head start on reporting for spring training. "Im definitely going in to start," said Davis, who began last season in the rotation but was demoted to the bullpen when he proved ineffective. "Hopefully I get that opportunity." SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Chris Wondolowski scored on a header in the 51st minute to help the San Jose Earthquakes tie the Columbus Crew 1-1 on Sunday. Wondolowski has three goals this season for San Jose (0-2-2). Federico Higuain scored his fourth goal of the season with left-footed strike in the 44th minute for Columbus (3-1-1). The Crew are unbeaten in three road games this year. Columbus created the best buildups in a first half marked mostly by end-to-end counterattacks. Higuain finally cashed in one of those chances just before the half, slipping in unmarked while Hector Jimenez found Waylon Francis with a diagonal pass. Francis took the ball to the end line before turning in a grounded cross for Higuain to slot home with his left foot from 12 yards. San Jose nearly tied it in the 47th minute when Yannick Djalo, freshly inserted at the half, took a short corner and beat Steve Clark with a delicate chip that ricocheted off the back post and out The Quakes continued their pressure and tied on their fifth corner kick in the opening six minutes of the second half. Wondolowski got in behind Victor Bernardezs near-post run and headed home Shea Salinas delivery. Crew forward Dominic Oduro beat Earthquakes goalkeeper Jon Busch with a strong header in the 82nd minute, but crashed off the crossbar. Wondolowski came close in the 89th minute after being freed by a lead pass from Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi, but his shot tailed wide of the near post. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall scored 51 seconds apart in the second period, and Bryzgalov got a shutout in his first start for Edmonton as the Oilers beat the Nashville Predators 3-0 Thursday night. "Always like it when they dont score," Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said. "And he picked up right where he left off last game. I thought he was solid. He looked big in the net, everything. Check marks right across the page for him." Bryzgalov, signed by the Oilers on Nov. 8, made 33 saves in his first NHL start since April 25 when he was in net for Philadelphia. Jordan Eberle added an empty-netter in the final minute off an assist from Hall, and the Oilers have won four of five. "So far so good," Bryzgalov said. Predators captain Shea Weber was hit by a puck near his right eye at 15:24 of the second, dropped to the ice and immediately skated to the locker room. He did not return with what team officials called an upper-body injury and is day-to-day. Nashville, which had won two straight, lost for the second time in seven games. Predators coach Barry Trotz noted they have used four goaltenders themselves this season. "The guys are going to bear down and play hard for the new guy thats in net," Trotz said. "The new guy for them is Bryzgalov, and we talked before the game that we needed to get in the hard areas and throw some pucks. He hasnt played for a while. He may be a little rusty. The game might not be tight. .. But obviously we didnt play hard enough in those hard areas." The Predators hosted one of the NHLs two games and were the only American team in action Thursday, wanting to start a holiday tradition in Nashville pairing hockey with turkey. It was just their 11th home game this season, fewer than all but Dallas and the Rangers. Nashville outshot Edmonton 13-9 in a sluggish first period with the Predators playing the second game of a back-to-back after winningg 4-0 in Columbus on Wednesday night.dddddddddddd This is the Oilers only visit to Nashville this season and the start of a three-game road trip. Eakins said he thought both teams were checking hard, which can lead to a dull or sluggish game. "But when youre coaching and you need your team to get better defensively, thats a ray of bright light coming in when the game looks sluggish but your teams checking very well," Eakins said. The Oilers opened the second by taking the first five shots, and Predators forward Paul Gaustad and Oilers left wing David Perron each went to the penalty box for unsportsmanlike conduct at 5:07. Nugent-Hopkins tipped in a shot by Jeff Petry 25 seconds later during the 4-on-4, and Hall scored on a backhander from Sam Gagner at 6:23 for a 2-0 lead. "Were a fast, skilled team," Nugent-Hopkins said. "We have to take opportunities when we get them. Four-on-four is a situation that when we play our game, we can get a couple goals." Bryzgalov, who signed a one-year deal with the Oilers for $1.7 million, debuted Monday in Edmonton, replacing Devan Dubnyk in a 5-1 loss to Chicago. Bryzgalov stopped four shots from Weber in the first period, but Weber had only one shot in the second before the puck hit him in the face. "Obviously if we lose our captain, its always hard and we hope hes OK and hopefully he gets back soon," Predators defenceman Roman Josi said. Bryzgalov had a nice pad save on Predators forward Mike Fisher in the final minutes to finish off his 31st career shutout and second against the Predators. NOTES: The Oilers are 4-5-2 when scoring first. Nashville dropped to 2-10-0 when the opponent scores first. ... Bryzgalov improved to 10-6-3 against the Predators. ... The Oilers are 5-1-0 when leading after two periods, and Nashville is 0-11-0 when trailing after two. ... Nugent-Hopkins has seven points in the last four games. ... It was Nashvilles fourth game on Thanksgiving and first since 2007. The Predators won the first three on their own ice. ... Nashville is 2-2-0 in the second of back-to-back games this season. San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The St. Louis Cardinals have signed infielder Mark Reynolds. Although terms of the pact are not known, MLB.com and CBS Sports are reporting that the deal is done pending a physical. Reynolds hit just .196 in 130 games last season for the Milwaukee Brewers and hasnt gone above .225 since 2009. However, he did hit 22 home runs and has averaged 30 home runs per 150 games for his career. Hes also led the league in strikeouts four times. While the 31-year-old Reynolds has spent the majority of his career at third base, he can also play first base and has seen time at both outfield corner positions. Over eight seasons in the majors, Reynolds owns a career .229 average with 224 homers, 613 RBI and 1,398 strikeouts in 1,118 games with Arizona, Baltimore, Cleveland, the New York Yankees and Brewers. Adidas Questar Flyknit Boost Womens Trainers Pink/White .C. -- With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, the Utica Comets needed someone to step up Saturday night. BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins had a November to remember, and then got December off to a rousing start by signing top-line centre David Krejci to a three-year contract extension. The deal was reached on Wednesday when the Bruins were in Toronto and announced Thursday by general manager Peter Chiarelli, one day after the Bruins finished November 12-0-1 with a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs. Krejci, a six-year veteran, scored a goal and added two assists Wednesday night for the Bruins, who had a month without a regulation loss for the first time since January 1969. That comes in the wake of last seasons Stanley Cup championship in which Krejci played a key role. He led the NHL with 23 post-season points, including 11 goals. Krejcis new deal carries an annual salary-cap hit of US$5.25 million, Chiarelli said. The centre could have become a restricted free agent next summer. "Davids biggest asset is his head. He sees the ice so well, he makes plays, he uses the players around him. Hes veryy competitive," Chiarelli said.dddddddddddd "Hes got a very well-rounded game." Krejci, 25, was drafted by the Bruins in the second round in 2004 and played his first six games with Boston in the 2006-07 season. He has 62 goals and 165 assists in 318 games. "Hes got a lot of real good offensive skills and instincts, but I think the two-way game (is underrated)," Chiarelli said. "I dont want to harp on that, but its important if you want to win championships. And I think he takes pride in that. When he first started, his eyes were opened wide to what he had to do to get that element to his game. And hes worked at it." Krejci broke a nine-game goal drought on Wednesday and he has four goals and nine assists in 20 games. He tied for the team lead last season with 62 points (13 goals and 49 assists). "Im still young and my game can grow in every situation," he said. "I can get better, get stronger, faster, get a better shot." SAN JOSE, Costa Rica -- Canada fell shot of an elusive semifinal berth at the FIFA under-17 womens World Cup, but coach Bev Priestman says the Canadians showed they could compete with the best in the world. Marie Levasseur and Sarah Kinzner scored for the Canadians in a 3-2 quarter-final loss to Venezuela on Thursday. The Canadians were hoping to make history as the first Canada side to make the semifinals at the U-17 event. "They outperformed what was expected of them in a very tough group and tried to play a brand of football that were trying to develop throughout our system," Priestman said. Deyna Castellanos, Yosneidy Zambrano and Lourdes Moreno scored for the Venezuelans at the 35,000-seat Nacional Stadium. Castellanos opened scoring in the seventh minute, before goals by Kinzner, in the 19th, and Levasseur, in the 40th, gave the Canadians a 2-1 lead. Zambrano scored the equalizer two minutes before halftime, then Moreno put Venezuela ahead for good in the 62nd minute. "The girls are obviously very disappointed at the moment, but to be fair to them Venezuela really counter-attacked to make it difficult," Priestman said. "You attack but then you lose the ball and youve got to quickly defend." In the preliminary round, Canada played perennial powerhouse Germany to a 2-2 draw before tying 2012 runners-up North Korea 1-1. The Canadians finished the preliminary round by toppling Ghana 2-1. Venezuela went undefeated through the opening round and hadnt conceded a goal until Kinzners. This was the youngest side Canada has fielded at the tournament. Priestman said she expects some of the players to continue to represent Canada in 2016, at either the under-17 World Cup in Jordan or the under-20 tournament in South Africa. "I expect to see quite a few of the players move up the system this summer in Canada," she said. http://www.soccerbelgiumonline.com/Eden-Hazard-UEFA-European-Belgium-Jersey/ .J. -- A couple of comeback kids helped the New York Giants continue their winning streak.
